lotr-sam0711: It's worth noting that both places that got upset about it are Catholic. For some reason Catholics are really touchy about how religion is portrayed in the media. Doesn't surprised me they got upset about this.
I still think the publicity stunt was in bad taste because it led many gaming media outlets to believe something that wasn't true: that Christian's were upset about this game. I know some Christians who want to play this game because it's based off of classical literature that most Christians circles revere.
anybody in their right mind wouldn't want to play this bastardization of classical literature.

chautemoc: Honestly I bet if Christians made the game it'd be a lot better haha.

Zoo Race wants to have a word with you.

As does just about every other Christian-made game. Left Behind, The Noah's Ark FPS made in the Doom engine, and countless other Bible trivia games show that Christian games are usually the worst of the bunch. It may be a God of War clone, but if they can make it fun, I'm all in for Dante's Inferno.

It may be a bastardization of the book, but it still might be fun. Dead Space was awesome, and since it's those guys who are making this, I can't wait to play it.

Namur: There's a post around here somewhere about the fake protest. At first glance, i didn't realized it was a marketing move because it really wasn't that much of a strectch to believe that some religious group, Christian or otherwise, would waste their time protesting against a game.

You're right, it wasn't. EA was clearly counting on Poe's Law. Had me fooled too.

Yeah, but i sure hope they don't do it again because you know the saying:
"Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and i'll be paying your main offices a visit, while wearing nothing but a flamethrower."
I know the saying doens't go exactly like this but Bush didn't managed to get it rigth either and he was the leader of the free world at the time, so it's all good :)
I think if this was just about any other company most of you woud be indifferent or would find it funny.
Either way, yeesh, where's your sense of humour? :P

I agree. I'm not a fan of EA, but I think that having a sense of humor about religion is very important. And this was a short term proof of Poe's law. Which is pretty funny, IMO.

I don't know if you mean me, but if you do, in my last post i was just kidding about how EA managed to fool me with the false protest.
I don't find this marketing stunt funny, but i find the fact that they managed to fool me with it very funny :)

I've read the book twice and I disliked it greatly both times. It's just a series of disjointed whining sessions from people who ended up in hell. It's a tedious and boring work that panders to a pervasive theological sensibility.
Just because a book is considered a classic doesn't mean it is actually good.

I've read the book and I enjoy it thoroughly. I'm sorry to hear that you can't enjoy it.
Were talking abut a group of people who express a religious opinion as a notable component of their lives, those sort of people are offended by reality in general.

Ahh you've clearly had to do english literature in high school as well then. Fuck they had some shit awful rubbish, Ive not read all of her books thankfully but does anything happen at all in any jane austen novel?
Haha, I'm an agnostic so I get to piss off whoever I want based on their religion! Woo hoo!
I can't believe they're doing this.

And college. I've read a lot of classics in my free time and most of my favorite books are considered classics, but I've read plenty of really bad books considered classics too.
Of all the books in all the world to be upset about getting desecrated by being made into a video game I doubt Dante's Inferno has too much of a following as a book for people to get upset about it when it differs from the original text.

I read Snow Crash. Now that's a fucking classic.
