When Eador: Masters of the Broken World was released on Steam, the developer promised that Genesis would only be available as a pre-order bonus and not in any other way. They not only wrote it on the store page, but also when asked in the forums:

Fast forward four months, and look at the BeMine 9 bundle:

Eador: Masters of the Broken World and Genesis are available as Steam key. By putting Genesis up into that key, they committed fraud to the preorderers who were guaranteed it would only be able as pre-order bonus!

Many people are seriously pissed about this.

I have learnt my lesson. Snowbird Games won't get my money again!
I don't really know what's going on, but did they say that Genesis would never be available on Steam except for preordering MOTBW?

edit: to clarify, I mean, their post on the forum looks like they are saying "the only way Genesis is available NOW is to preorder". Surely one can say they implied this would be the case later on, but did they actually say it?

Eador. Genesis will only be available through MotBW pre-order and it's the only way to have it in your Steam game library. Unfortunately, nothing we can do about it.
This is what they said.
I really should try and read more about this before saying anything, but this sounds as if they were responding to requests to have Genesis as a separate release, and (at that moment) they could not do it for whatever reason.
actually , through Steam it's not possible to buy it directly.

only in the BeMine 9 bundle.

i don't know if it's called fraud or whaterver , but the devs stated there was something beyond their control.

However i must agree, that's quite not respectfull for those who preorder on Steam :/

Maybe they wanted more exposure ...but there's something wrong.
This reminds me of movie directors being adamant that the cinema version of their movie IS the directors cut so people buy the standard edition bluray instead of waiting for the extended/directors cut. XD

Only on Steam will people bitch that others are now able to get a game. Talk about entitlement.
Great drama.
It has been 4 months; that seems like a fair period of pre-order only exclusive. The logic seems uncertain to advocate in favor of limiting a video game release to pre-orders only - it should be avaliable for people to enjoy. I find it odd for consumers to feverishly buy into this "limited edition" ploy to the point of being offended that the developer has resorted to nearly giving away their game(s). They developer, if anyone, is the person being short changed here. Also, if you believe that with a pre-order you are buying something that will forever retain value or give you some life long perk forever denied others.

that seems oblivious.

Short version:
'I have it, because I'm soooo cool. Nobody else should have it, because nobody's as cool as me.'
It definitely isn't fraud, they offered a product for a price, you paid the price, you received the promised product, no more, no less.

They broke a promise, which is perfectly legal. A completely shitty thing to do, yes, but perfectly within their rights.

My thoughts exactly.

This. I think there are much better things to get upset about.

Agreed.

I remember on some kickstarter I backed, the dev's proposed to have some small part of the game exclusive only to those people who backed it. There was a bit of an outcry from backers saying they wanted everyone to be able to access the whole game, so that even those who didnt back it would be able to enjoy everything. The devs saw their point and agreed to make the whole game available to everyone. Almost the exact opposite view to that of the OP here.

Well, they could have given keys for Desura or GOG or a DRM-free download for Genesis and I would be perfectly fine. But they said it will be only available on Steam via the pre-order, and it is not. If they would have told the truth, I would have saved my 20 Euro.
