Load up your Origin client and you will notice a little cloud icon under some game titles. Ones I have that support it are Alice: Madness Returns, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Dead Space 2 and Shift 2 Unleashed. I assume Battlefield 3's Single Player is supported as well.

Of course they're entitled to compete. Competition is good. Other sites offer different services with different benefits. GOG offers games that are, well, good and old and its USP is that the games are DRM-free and fixed for compatibility. GamersGate offers sort of the same thing but also offers mainstream DRM'd stuff. Desura offers a platform for DRM-free indie games. GameTap offers a rental service. OnLive offers game streaming (if that's your cup of tea).

Origin, on the other hand, is nothing but a slow, clunky, carbon copy of Steam. Which, in its own right, wouldn't be that bad if EA didn't keep insisting that they weren't trying to compete with Steam, even though they're copying over their features one by one and are trying to woo third-party publishers.

Origin isn't competing with steam. Do you see a non EA game on it anywhere? They're taking the best features available and integrating them in. The way fanboys talk it's as if other companies can't use standard non proprietary features just because they didn't think of it first.

I suggest you check my previous posts and my Steam forum posts before you decide to pre-judge me as being a "Steam fanboy" again. Prick. The problem is though that Origin isn't optional. It's forced upon you for all current EA games - much like Steam is forced upon you for a lot of retail games these days, and it's the reason why I'm not all that keen on either of them. I use Steam for the cheapest of games out there - never full price, and Origin never seems to be particularly competitive in price. Also - here in Germany, you can only buy 18-rated games after 11pm. The most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

Steam cloud saves are optional by the way, although I've never tried switching them off to see if it works properly.

No sir, incorrect. Origin is required for Battlefield 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic. That's all. With all other games even ones purchased through the Origin store you do not need Origin running for them to function.

Actually, that is a pretty good way to control purchases. As a parent you can easily restriced timed access to a computer and any Kid that can cirumvent that via proxy or vpn has earned the game ;-).

Maybe, but for now it is limited to multiplayer focused games. If their early 2012 games like ME3 and Syndicate require Origin to be running at all times then it's official.
