Hey, so I only have 1 game digital from EA and that's Mass Effect 2 since they gave it for free with DA2 or whatever. I know that they have or at least had something that made it so you couldn't redownload your game after a year. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is still the case or if there is a way I can make a backup of the game for the future? Thanks.

It's not an enforced policy. I went without using it for like 3 years and Northern Strike is still on my account.

If it is true then wtf? lol That's one of the weirdest things I've heard - to have some game only in digital form and not to be able to download it again after some time just because its publisher prevents that.

I knew that you would still be allowed to use it, I just remember seeing something from them that said that after a year you couldn't redownload. Though perhaps that was old news or something... I hope... I actually like ME2.... lucky me that I didn't have it before... it made my paying for the Sig Edition of DA2 worth the price haha

From their point of view it would make perfect sense. Want to play the game again after a couple years? You gotta buy it again.

But I believe you can reDL your games pretty much permanently now.

and it is not true. not for origin. it was sortof true for eadm but they abandoned it and never enforced it.

The last I heard, the concern had been reduced to them deleting your DLC (not actual games) if you hadn't logged into Origin at all for at least two years. Too lazy to look it up, but moral of the story is it's probably a non-issue.

I know where you are going to. But it is not the same as buying old games again on GOG as here they are not in the same, identical form as the old ones.

It doesn't matter. It is clearly stated in the ToS / EULA / whatever, what you get for your money... I constantly hear the same thing about DRM-free music... People crying about not able to download their tracks after 24 hours of purchase... Well, that is what you agreed to pay for. ;)

That's reason to not trust developers when they are giving something big for free :P

edit: oh, and also the reason to not trust digital distribution that it is so great :P
