Finally, someone's standing up to that god-damned trolling bastard Tim Langdell of Edge Games. He sues anything that comes out that uses the word "edge", when he's barely released a single title in recent years. It appears EA has had enough of this bulls**t, so they're going after him whole-hog. Of course he's fighting it, but seeing as the only thing his company does anymore is troll on anyone who decides to include "edge" in something, I think he's done for.

Also, his company hasn't published a game since 1990, and if you look at one comment in particular at the bottom, someone points out that the website appears to be a front to make it look like they're actually working on something. They even said they had a game coming soon called "Mirrors" a little bit after EA released Mirror's Edge.
EDIT: Forgot to mention something else about Tim Langdell. An iPhone app released recently called "Edge", and he bullied the two creators to take it down.

Good. This is trademark abuse at its worst. Companies shouldn't be able to get trademarks on an actual word.
People like that always make the mistake of getting arrogant. Then one day they simply pick on someone who can fight back and fight back hard. God help him when EA's lawyers are done with him.
See this blog here: http://chaosedge.wordpress.com/ . All hilarious account of Langdell and his edgy crusade. :D
What a greedy bastard. Simple words like "edge" are barely able to be trademarked in the first place, which is why companies often go with made-up spellings (e.g. if you wanted to call your company "envious" you would spell it "nvus" or whatever). Not only does this make your trademark more unique and thus easier to defend in court it also makes it less likely to be confused with anything.
I was thinking of making a game called Edge Tycoon, where you play as a moronic game dev boss who sues people to make money because you're a talentless little shit who whines and bitches about everything. It'll be a hit.
Woo, go EA!
Heh that's a sentence I wasn't expecting to say today
"In a lengthy public statement published last August, Langdeel seems to imply that EA and Mobigame might be working together “to seek to undermine our rights in EDGE,” to get out of an agreement Langdell says Edge and EA had reached earlier."
Hmm, he's sounding a bit Jack "OMFG CONSPIRACIEZ!!!" Thompson there
“The key dispute for the past two to three years … has always been between the multinational conglomerate EA and Edge fighting for its rights as a relatively small indie developer up against the giant corporate bully, EA,” Langdell wrote. “It is a great pity that another fellow indie developer, Mobigame, got caught in the crossfire, but at least EA are now out in the open with their fight, now openly trying to stifle the legitimate rights of indie developers.”
Oh you CUNT! Talking like he's actually HELPING mobigame rather than trying to strongarm them for outrageous amounts of money on a common use word.

LOL. I wouldn't go that far. But it sounds like the two deserve each other.
Well, on the upside, he was pretty much "forced" to step down from his post at the IGDA. Once that happened, it opened the door for all sorts of karma to come back to haunt him.
EDIT: oooh, someone should trademark "Langdell" just to spite him.

While not one of us here owe EA anything, there is no publisher more capable of giving Langdell the legal fucking he requires. EA have pots of money, lawyers that were genetically bred for the job and the morals of a cobra. I know who I am cheering for.

Dear gods. The more I read this, the more I'm reminded of the Limbo of the Lost controversy in 2008, and that is starting to pale in comparison.
I really had a hard time believing this. this guy has made a career out of trademarking the term "edge"? It's really douchey, but somehow genius at the same time. That being said, it seems that the jig is up. He should just go away and be glad he milked it for this long.

I like Need for Speed: Shift, and I like hearing about Langdell being squashed under the feet of giants. I'm a sick person.
The sad thing is, I used to own some of the games originally published by that con artist. Here's hoping he soon sees a very long prison sentence for the fraud he has been committing for that last 30 odd years.
EA...
They are (at least claim to be) trying to change their image lately. So it's good to see their power being used for good for once.
edit: I've never heard about 'Tim Langdell' until now, but it all sounds deserved so far.
