I just read this article and I find it silly that people would protest this considering all the games that have hell and hellish stuff in them. Some really old like Doom and some released recently like Nrecrovision. They have quite artsy posters and lines like EA = Electronic Anti-Christ.
Edit: forgot link..oops :D

kiva: EA = Electronic Anti-Christ.

Quoted for truth.
In all seriousness, though, while I don't agree with their methods I can sort of understand where they are coming from with this. Their fear is that the supernatural and occult are becoming accepted and commonplace subjects in entertainment, which some people are naturally attracted to to fill their lack of a spiritual experience, which means those people are being spiritually satisfied by those things and not by coming to God (and, in turn, not being saved and thus going to hell when they die).
Having said that, I really don't think this bizarre re-imagining of Dante's Inferno will make much of an impact; there are much more troubling and serious things out there in the world of entertainment.
"Salvationists against Virtual and Eternal Damnation". God help us all.
Too much free time on their hands or what ?

Not as much as these guys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoVGMwcOjL4
These are the people that we ACTUALLY need to be putting in asylums.
I do like a nice protest. Even if I completely disagree with them (well, except for the EA comment).
"It may be based on a classic work of literature"
Um... not quite based on really, about as much as all those films that say "based on a true story" perhaps.
Wonder how long until jack thompson runs over to them claiming to have evidence of a vast conspiracy

The TITLE is based on a classic work of literature

Yeah, apparently not. Thanks a bunch for the link, it's hilarious. I'm still gasping for air.
How anyone can lobby against Scooby-Doo is beyond me. I'll never understand people.
There are 5 parts to that. It includes Voltron, Transformers and He-Man. I saw the Transformers one and the protest made me remember the vids. :D
I'd throw some firecrackers into their proceedings, but I just don't have the time. And I don't have the energy to make signs supporting EA and their devilish ways, either. Somebody, do something!
Really, though, their ignorance is portrayed by their lack of experience with the game, and they should know better than to protest before playing. Guh...

Never seen protests over games before? Google around for info on that 6 days in fallujah game...

I have, but I've never really discussed them before. Also, I bet that game you mentioned would have been deemed an important piece of history had it been released, due to the people involved during development.. What a shame.
goddamn protestors on faith, I'm protesting this game for accuracy!

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was going to be Dante Inferno fans protesting about accuracy. These people are crazy, I'm a Christian myself and I'm personally alright with the whole idea of having Hell in games, even if it's not biblically orthodox.
Man, it should be protested--not for religious reasons, but rather that the game's entire concept is so intellectually insulting. It's just fucking stupid.
And the lead designer talks about being "respectful" to the original chunk of the poem it's based on....YEAH OKAY. (I don't even like the poem...I'm more of a free-verse kinda guy.)
