Anyone know whether or not you have to have a specific DVD or Blu Ray software package for a specific drive or whether any software would work with them???

I finished my rebuilding of a two year old computer that has a DVD Player/rewriter in one drive and a BVD player (not recorder) in another. But I can't find the original disks that came with them. I don't know if I never got them (this was a computer purchased from CyberPower that came with everything pre-installed) or if I lost them. I looked on the CyberPower recovery disk, but all that had on it was Windows 7.

I'm afraid that the codecs required to get DVD and/or Blu Ray drives to operate properly are brand specific such that any old software may not work in which case all I know to do would be to purchase a new drive (or two) or whether I can just purchase some software somewhere. I looked at Newegg and put in a search for "DVD Player Software" but none came up. Anyone know?

The only time they might be drive specific is if they were OEM products(the stuff that comes bundled with the hardware).

If you don't mind paying for new software you could you use something like PowerDVD which has also plays Blu-ray support.

THANK YOU very much, that's the answer I was hoping for. However, how can I tell if either or both were OEM drives?? Do you know?? Perhaps if I can find the original invoice??? Finding a two year old invoice might not be the easiest thing I've ever done, but perhaps I'll find it.

Disks though, I almost never throw away. That's why I'm wondering if I even got the disks when it came or if CyberPower just pre-installed the software and then forgot to send them (or intentionally didn't send them). I just almost NEVER throw disks away, but I can't find those.

I found the disks that came with the drives I purchase last summer when I did my first self build, but can't find them from this CyberPower one that I had to rebuild thanks to UPS destroying the case and motherboard.

It doesn't actually matter if the drives were OEM they're the same as retail drives minus a bit of packaging and sometimes support, I wasn't clear but I was trying to focus on whether the software would work with other drives.

If you have some discs with software on that came with the drives that you purchased last year, I would would just try installing the software on those discs and see whether they work or not. If they don't, just uninstall them again and buy some new software.

I have an LG BlueRay drive that came without software (BlueRay). I bought Cyberlink's Media Suite and it works fine.

Happy you have solved your problem, the popular Blu-ray software are compatible with most types of BD/DVD drive. For example, PowerDVD, Macgo Windows Blu-ray Player, Arcsoft Total Media Theatre, WinDVD. Free trial are available for all of them. The list is for you or other users reference.
