I recently got a tablet, (not iCrap, A Galaxy Tab 2 10.1).. Its screen is decent for films, I know I could most likely use VLC to convert DVDs to put on the tablet, but I am looking for something bit simpler and more automatic about settings. So what DVDrip/conversion software would you recomand?
(both free and pay version)..

Handbrake is pretty nice.
It is a bit iCrap-centric, but it also has general profiles and you can customize a bunch of options.

Your tablet still crap, but anyways... try AnyDVD.

I always liked the malleable nature of DVDsmith... automatic one click grab the movie... later you can use any old converter to shink it and make it fit whatever format you need.

Really? I always feel like it just kicked me in the balls whenever I use it. I use Mpegstreamclip (which uses ffmpeg). Not great if you want to batch convert many files at once, but nice controls for single conversions.

I only get around to watching movies on my ipad when in bed, so I just stream videos to it with Air Video. Which does awesome on the fly conversion of every format I've thrown at it, and supports hd resolution streaming over wifi, reducing upscaling to the ipad's 2048 x 1536 screen.

I've tried Air Video but it was really flaky for me, plus I sometimes take videos to show people away from home.

I'm using the latest version with the beta server and it runs a treat. Is your wifi router set to a high enough multicast rate? Air Video its self has a load of stream settings too.

Once I decided to properly set up my router to reserve the same ip address for my streaming machine and the ipad via their unique mac addresses I never had any connection troubles like I did when I first started using Air Video.

Little update, Seems handbrake do not really play nice whit one of my comps (The Blueray/DVD combo is not of a recomaned brand), and second GAHH DVD-DRM messing up.. got to try whit that DVD Decrypt.

Its pricey and buggy, but I use DVDFab now. I recommend it now that I have dealt with their support on a few movies that wouldn't rip correctly. They stuck with me until it worked including sending me test versions and older versions, etc.

It supports a serious amount of formats and there is a lifetime support option.

For free, I use DVDDecryptor and DVDShrink for removing menus, extras, languages, etc. You may also need the above recommended packages (handbrake or AnyVideoConverter to convert the ISO).

DVDFab is more of a one-stop, one pass utility, it handles the decryption AND the conversion all at once. Again, its pricey, but worth it and it supports many advanced features like Blu-ray, 3d, etc.

Yes, but make sure you are looking at the right price. $199.99 is the whole suite of tools and lifetime updates (last I checked). They advertise like $800.00 but then claim you are saving$600.00 or some such nonsense. Still expensive compared to free alternatives... but it is a pretty nice set of tools that can cover a ton of ground on video projects.
