As it goes most all games are consoled, even pc exclusives show some console touches.... and most console players cant handle anything more complex then DS3... just watch the Witcher 2 review by Yahtzee, and see how many thousands of people agree...

anyways Oblivion was consoled to hell and back and i played that for nearly 2 1/2 years.... so far that and Diablo 2 are my longest games... i can pick up either and just go play... Dungeon Siege 2 and Titans Quest: IT are the longest dungeon crawlers on the freaking planet and i was burnt out after just 2 play thoughs....

there is something to be said for a quick jump in that holds a titles ability to just feel fun and last... that and random content to keep you interested EG Hellgate: London which is always installed on my PC.

On the flip side Duke 3D i know every level by heart and i can play that anytime anywhere... but thats all Nostalgia for me... hell even talking about it i want too :)

hellgate london was from the orginal creaters of diablo. Titan quest was bugged even at installation was a drag. I remember when i finaly got it to work i went online a random player came to me and said look at this cool hacked sword, i quited the game and unstalled it that destroyed diablo 1 for me too. And diablo 2 i liked the way they were 2 servers 1 for the cheating powergamers and normal servers for the serious gamers. Btw sacred 2 was huge i never had finished it and friends told me the pc version was the best 1, i had the ps 3 version.
I'm at work here and having a shit day, but this comment made me laugh so hard I'm feeling better already:

'Lets be honest though. Would Diablo II be any worse with joypad controls? I doubt it.'

Whoever posted that clearly has never played Diablo 2, or if they have it was lost on them. Whichever way this whole thread is looked at, some games play better with control pad (I play SF4 on PC with a xbox360 ctrl) and some (like Diablo 2) play better with KBM.

That's life. Get over it.

Tony.

Umm yes I did. Maybe it was lost on me but it's a cookie cutter ARPG IMO.
I think it is possible for people to change their habits *

I'm not a console fan and I don't intend buying one, but this thread has inspired me to go and get an Xbox controller for my PC.

I do have a joystick, but I only use it for flight simulaters such as Wing Commander and Tie Fighter. For everything else, I use mouse and keyboard (OK, I don't own any Mortal Kombat / Street Fighter type games). So I hope this combination of mouse & keyboard continues to be supported by the time Dungeon Siege IV and Diablo IV are made.

But I do have a couple of driving games and I think an Xbox controller would be better suited to these than a keyboard, and this thread has inspired me to just go an get one.

Small snag though: two of my favourite online retailers don't have it in stock. Just hope this isn't a general trend. But I'll keep looking.

* i.e. change habits by buying a controller for a PC, and not buying a console ;-)

Any wired Xbox360 controller will do, Vista/7 automatically recognise it and download the drivers.

Would it still work if I'm using Windows XP?

Yeah I know, I should move on to 7!

Yes but you will have to manually install the drivers that's the only difference.

With all due respect Delixe, the game must have been lost on you then for you to dismiss D2 as a 'cookie cutter ARPG'. Want proof that it's much better than you clearly think?

It's been hovering around the Top 10 games for PC at Gamefaqs since it was released 10 years ago or so (currently number 9 IIRC), it does alot more right than it does wrong, and an important part of that is the control method. A game may have fantastic design but if you have to use a piece of wood to interface with it, it sort of defeats the point. :)

Anyway I think we will have to agree to disagree...nice debating it with you tho..

Cheers,

Tony.

Other people liking it is not proof. Millions of people like World of Warcraft and The Sims. Doesn't mean they are good games IMO. We all have different tastes and mine is to require a little more from an RPG than click, click, click, click.
I enjoyed the first two games, but am pessmistic about the third because of the changes they made. Having to go with predesigned charecters rather then the ablitty to create your own is a big downer for me (and, oddly enough, Blizzard id going the opposite direction for Diablo 3 and allowing you to create your own characters), and I am fraid that overall it is going to be "dumbed down" for console use.

I would actually say Dungeon Siege 3 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance prove it could work very, very well on a pad. Also Diablo 3 is definitely getting a console port, just you watch.

Just because something is possible doesn't means it's a good thing do do. Of course it's perfectly possible to make any type of game works with gamepad, even a RTS, but there is price to pay, there is no "magic" there are tings that just can't be done with a pad so if you want your game to be playable with one then you only have one solution : removes them.

I am not "anti-gamepad", heck I am playing Alice right now with an Xbox pad, it's just that there are some genre of games that can suffer a lot if they are created with gamepad-oriented gameplay in mind, and I think that Diablo-clone (i.e. fast paced ARPG) is one of them.

I don't mind playing console ARPG, but I really hope that Diablo 3, at least for the PC version, won't be "streamlined" for pad usage.

When I said "very, very well" I meant specifically that this type of game works well with a pad, no real compromises.
