The good news? EA today announced Dungeon Keeper Online, an MMO-based continuation of Bullfrog's classic strategy games. Bad news? It's not for you.
Dungeon Keeper Online, as the game will be known as, is to be developed by Chinese studio NetDragon Websoft. As part of the deal,. NetDragon will get access to all of Dungeon Keeper's "themes, characters and other game content", while EA will get access to (provided the game succeeds) large amounts of cash money.
Apart from the fact it's a "3D massively multi-player online role playing game", nothing else about the game was announced. Sadly for Western lovers of the franchise, the game is slated to appear only in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

EA... FUCKING SUCK!!!
I don't think I can say it any better than that >:-(
Sure, why don't you take one of the best game series ever, that you yourselves discontinued in a fit of (by now permanent) insanity, and turn it into a freaking MMO, in Asia only! They've probably sold them the rights to the franchise outright too, thus ensuring that DK3 will never happen!
IDIOTS!!!
Developed in asia. I suppose I can expect a 'free to play...unless you want to fight with more than a rusty short sword, then you have to pay us tons of money for every level and piece of equipment you want' sort of pricing plan?
This sucks, I loved the DK games.
A new one should NOT have been an mmo, and especially not released to western gamers/UKers, etc.
I mean, what the hell? That's lilke a japanese game that is fairly famous and respected in Japan and then they sell it to a western developer to make for the west and not for japan.
It makes no damn sense at all, either business wise nor logical...
You'd think they'd get more money by letting a decent developer make it and stick within what DK is about...an RTS where you play the evil guys and torture the heroes and other things.
I'd expect the mmo to be just cliche and your average generic asian mmo dungeon cheap mmo free to play grindfest with nothing new or unique.

Exactly! What a waste!
this COULD be cool if they allowed players have their own dungeons and had other players try to raid them....
I was at least curious. Then I saw the letters EA. No need to learn anything more.
Eh, what's with the outrage? Dungeon Keeper was never a franchise that should be turned into an MMO, nor be made a third game out of. The first two was so good due to taking the limited possibilities of the contemporary technology and blowing our minds with it.
In today's market, they could never achieve anything more groundbreaking than they already did and would thus have to simply resort to making DK2 with a new "story" and graphics. This would flop pretty much just like Unreal 3 did.
I wasn't expecting anything mindblowing to come from that part of the gaming universe, and apparently I won't be seeing anything mindblowing from them. If no one had decided to make the game discussed in the OP, there wouldn't have been even the slightest mention of the franchise except possibly to get it into Gog.com's sales list.
No reason for the outrage fellas. You aren't affected by it anyway.
Grow up and find a real problem to get vocal about. There's plenty of them out there.
A good developer can always blow your mind. And there are a lot of sequels who are old game + new engine, i would prefer that instead of an MMO instead.
The best news is probably that they want to spare us, thus releasing it in Asia only.

This accurately describes my emotions.

Too big, I linked, we really need a delete post button.
I loved DK aswel, but I wasn't really waiting for a new one. The fact that it's going MMO and to Asia means imo that it'll likely involve capturing and trading monsters, it's been done many times before.
No, I don't feel like I'm going to miss out on something great
Only Asia only, damn EA lol. :P
I think the success of WoW just brought on a bunch of new MMOs that does little more than show the limitations of that type of engine.
No matter how well they dress it up its always just a player hacking at some server controlled mob or other player. Fined tuned and softcapped to hell so you can never do anything unpredictable. As soon as things get large scale or interactive enough to become fun its just breaks down because of network traffic.
They can just stop making them for all I care
