Fallout was story heavy with completely different areas to explore and things to accomplish.

Kinda like why would someone want to play FF8 if they've played FF9 as opposed to why would someone would want to play Tetris if they've played Super Tetris.

What I mean was DK 1 and DK 2 would be like F1 and F2 if the availability of F1 was basically zero. F1 and F2 are almost the same to the casual observer, or as you put it: "second game have been an expanded on and upgraded port of the first". It's not about the question which game is better or has more substance in the long run (remember, F1 is for some more kosher than F2), but it's about basic supply and demand. But I'm sure we all agree on this last bit by now.

I personally prefer DK1 over DK2. Not that DK2 was bad or anything, it's a great game, I just like the first one better for some reason.

Better atmosphere perhaps? I always tought DK1 had a nicer color scheme and made much better use of sound effects. I remember hovering over the unexplored map, hearing the sound of falling water or fireballs jumping out of lava. Also had more diversity in its environments (snow, etc.)

Always hated the fact that I had to click on every single map square when building rooms though. Was a real mouse-killer. DK2 was more playable.

The level design in the DK1 and it's expansion were better then DK2.
DK 1 had better gameplay, DK 2 has better graphics.

I think both the DS and PSP have cheesy ripoffs on DK, don't they? I seem to remember playing the second one for the PSP, and I thought about getting the DS one but ended up forgetting about it.

Yeah, at least the PSP. Looked quite cool. Forgot the name of it though.

There is a PC game just out called Dungeons, which is pretty much trying to be Dungeon Keeper 3, but, from the reviews, is a total failure.

To make it worse EA signed a deal with Chinese developer to work on a Dungeon Keeper MMO.

The main problems with Dungeons IMO is not that they tried to be DK3 but that they tried NOT to be it. There nothing wrong with trying to be different and original and the idea of it being an "Theme Heros" instead of being a DK clone is not a bad one it itself, it's just the execution and the gameplay mechanics that are severely lacking in Dungeons.

Hello all, thanks for the suggestions. I actually do own the games. I have the original DK 1 release, the deeper dungeons add-on, DK Gold (added several new creatures), and DK2. But there can definitely be huge issue getting DK2 to run in modern windows systems. A riend and I used to play countless multiplayer missions against each other in DK1... that was a blast.

I also have Evil Genius (original release and Steam). While I like the game, the slow pace just kills me. I dislike spending 45 minutes making a diplomat by training a minion up through all the levels. I played through the game using cheats once though, and it was more bearable. Some of the traps however are fairly useless.

I also read up on the reviews for Dungeon by Kalypso and was very disappointed to see it was a glorified tower defense game. I will likely still try it once it is no longer $40.

The reason Id love to see DK on GOG is simply because of compatibility and exposure for people who haven't had the opportunity to experience it.

Ultimately I'd just love to see the old Bullfrog Catalog on here. Syndicate, magic Carpet series, DK, theme games, populous series, genewars, and hell - even hi-octane was fun.

The thing is it was marketed in a "Hey, we can't call it DK 3 ,but that is what this game really is" style, and you can't blame critics for reviewing it on that basis.

One of my fav games as a kid, on Uk ebay it goes for around £10-15 dependant on variant your after.

I would like to see the bullfrog collection on here, I was a bit young to understand magic carpet and I also enjoyed hi-octane

I must say I still have trouble imagining how on earth this is supposed to work. I love Dungeon Keeper, always have, always will, but... MMO!?

There're two factions, heroes and keepers, if you're a keeper, you're building a base to defend, if you're a hero, you're building an army to... well, offend? :P
