I still want the balls of steel edition so I'll take this one on the chin.

All hail Gabe.

I agree, while Steamworks is less obnoxious than many other DRM schemes out there, I'm not personally willing to pay full price for something that can so easily be revoked at any time by the seller.

I guess I should feel lucky that I wasn't stupid enough to buy the special edition when I was considering it a few days ago. I'll probably just pick up the bust of Duke on eBay.
God damn mother f***ing bullshit to cocking hell!

Yet another game off my 'to buy' list.
I'll be buying this cheap then... I'm not against Steam as a store for buying games but I am against games publishing exclusively on there for DRM purposes.

By the way, the offline mode for Steam provides me with some peace of mind that I can continue to access my games, BUT I recently had a power cut while my PC was on and Steam was running. After trying to log in again later, some Steam files were corrupted so I wasn't able to use offline mode - are there any specific Steam files I can backup to protect against this?
Steamworks game becomes a possible buy if and only if it gets a $2 holiday sale after its release. Not 2$ off, but the game retails at that.

That's basically my policy. I will occasionally break it if what I'm after is data files, and I can take them from steam for use as I please. But as a general rule, anything more than about $2 is too much for that sort of DRM.
Well that sucks but that hardly a surprise given that it's a 2k game.
Good -- the industry is better off if people use some discretion in purchasing/wait for sales rather than plunk down $80+ on pre-order collector's editions. So if the inclusion of Steamworks counsels more people towards the former than the latter than it is for the greater good.

You're doing it wrong, you're supposed to hate Steam!
