Mentalepsy: Well, now that the demo is available, I gave it a try.

It's passable, I suppose, but it really just made me want to play Duke 3D instead. DNF feels anemic and distracted, and it's trying too hard to impress me without really knowing how. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it much, either. It's easy to see how a 15-year development time warp would produce something like this.
Now THAT's a right proper criticism.

+1
Bumping for further opinions and newfound things about people's playing of DNF.

I don't know about that. I made some vague general assertions, and didn't really explain specifically what I didn't like or how those things could have been improved. :p

Well, you kinda killed it. What little merit it had to begin with.

Bah, everyone was having fun(pgs 34-37ish) until the trolls lowrated it.

BTW to others: I saw some here have DNF on steam that I know. I wonder how they liked the game(or disliked it even.)

I´ve completed it on the worst version of all (Xbox360 one), and frankly, it´s a lot better than I expected after reading so many people who didn´t like it. Yeah, it isn´t polished and it´s not a masterpiece as Duke Nukem 3D was, but it´s a fun game and it´s far from being crap. I´m on the second playthrough and I think people is exaggerating everything too much. The graphics aren´t that bad, I´ve seen worse slowdowns in a lot of games, and the loading times are annoying (specially after dying more than once on a section), but not a game killer.

I´ve found the game to be varied and entertaining, although I got bored in some parts. After knowing where is everything and how to kill anything it´s getting better. Yeah, it could be more polished, but I personally think it´s far away from being a bad game. I don´t find the regenerating system or the 2 weapons limits that annoying, except on bosses, where I get tired of having to ressuply everytime.
Not to further eviscerate and dismember a deceased equestrian, but it looks like us Mac users get to share the pain with the rest of you on August 11th.

Of all the UE2.5/3 engine games Aspyr could have ported, I'm stunned as to why they picked this one.
