Bulletmagn3t: Yes, I realize this. But just because they had it, it doesn't mean they succeeded BECAUSE of it.
This is what I call "Cargo Cult" game design.
Certainly, but when Halo first came out, the limited weapon option was considered a pro and not a con. I'm not necessarily trying to defend DNF, just more curious about as to why Weapon selection is suddenly a major offense when it hasn't been for many games prior.

Gersen: And what about Need for Speed where you carry no weapon at all... Portal is a puzzle game you can't compare it to a shooter.
Oh you, you caught my little joke.

Gersen: The weapon limit is not "THE" issue, it's just one of the issues.
Certainly, but I was just curious as to why it's an issue.

hedwards: Here we go, I think the best way to summarize the link would be "suck it cow"

But, I won't go there, here it is, the one and only Duke Demo has come to steam for anybody that wants it. It's a bit bizarre that it's taken this long, but there you go.

Yes, that was quite a surprise. However, it still doesn't change the fact that they didn't release the demo until over a week after the release, most likely to hide the fact that the demo was a pile of crap.

Don't you think that changing your argument midstream is a bit childish?

How have I changed my arguments? Don't make accusations without backing them up.

I don't see anything changed. Please clarify.
Well at least now everyone has a demo so they can stop bemoaning the lack of one.
I played a bit more today, and got to the shotgun part, and am now making my way past the giant statue clibing bit. Funny how every EDF soldier seems to get their butt handed to them so badly, especially after they talk to Duke. :\

No offense, but you are not better than all those haters with your continual defending DNF and excusing its flaws.

Because DN3D did not have the 2 weapon limit and it worked fine. So why putting the limit there? Because Halo, CoD and many others have it now?

Actually I am not as bad as I have actually mentioned flaws I found with the game pages back. I also said people shouldn't buy it just review before making a buying decision....and also to criticise when commenting and not outright troll bash the game.

Also this is mainly a thread to enjoy the good aspects of the game, although criticism(if fair and not outright trolling) is allowed. Along with posting links to DNF related materials/etc.

Personally I hate two weapon limit, it just feels so damned ackward, when every corner of the game is filled with weapons, so you can change between them.

That was put in to make the two weapon limit less of an annoyance to the ones who hate it.

Which in its own right makes the whole system even more so idiotic.

It works fine and challenges you to pick the right weapon at the right time. Maybe cut back on the weapon placement and retool the ego a bit....ego imo needs it more anyways. Maybe make a normal health bar which Duke can only replenish through health packs/etc and let ego be like shields but let it replenish slower and deplete quicker.

Well, now that the demo is available, I gave it a try.

It's passable, I suppose, but it really just made me want to play Duke 3D instead. DNF feels anemic and distracted, and it's trying too hard to impress me without really knowing how. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it much, either. It's easy to see how a 15-year development time warp would produce something like this.
