GameRager: You said wood....very ironically appropriate when talking about Duke. ;)

I was talking more to StingingVelvet actually, explaining why the games were good.........but yeah they're fun ain't they?
I like Painkiller, but Serious Sam, I'm not sure if I just don't get it, or if the references are too obscure, but it just doesn't really have what I would consider to be a very good aesthetic. It's sort of jarring when those bad guys with the big heads pop up.

Painkiller, has an aesthetic per level, which works well, considering that it's more about fun than it is about telling a particular story, but each level has a very well thought out aesthetic to tie it together.

Serious Sam you should give another chance, imo. The enemies are supposed to be parodies of other games's enemies and other media in egenral or just outright too silly to be real...even in fiction. Hence the title...for a Serious Sam is nothing close to being serious, and that's what makes it funny. It's there for you to laugh at and make fun of rather than immerse yourself in...and the new HD remakes look even better(the trippy g rated mode you can switch to is amazingly funny, with enemies blowing up into pumpkins/confetti/etc....which takes a stab at game censorship over the years)

Looks like it runs well in crossover games, so that's something. I guess I'm just too used to games that are more like Duke, they've got an aesthetic which covers the level and perhaps not more, Quake, I'm looking at you, but binds the level together.

And many SS levels have a level wide asthetic too...the tutorial is ancient egypt temple areas....the next few levels are different areas in the same time period...etc.
Green Man Gaming is having a sale on Duke Nukem Forever, 27% off! I'm pre-loading the game on Steam right now! I am so psyched!

Do you have to wait until the 14th as well?

Oh yeah, but no biggie. I'm just excited is all.

Nah, just the standard version. I've never been one for special editions.
Is it just me or is Duke Nukem suddenly nowhere to be found on Steam's sales charts? Which is odd for a Steamworks game as every copy sold would affect that chart.

It was right up the top before the negative press started too.
Still 3 more days......sigh. I played some of the demo but didn't want to be spoiled so I didn't finish it or noclip like some did to access cheats. Also I wonder if we get to keep the DNF demo in our steam client along with the full game for archival/collecting purposes, or if the full game overwrites/deletes the demo once installed.

Steam has sales so often that games replace one another on their top lists all the time. Possibly they had a big sale and DNF sunk down the list since most people who wanted it bought it already, so it's not making many new sales?

I'm seeing 14 games and 2 DLC in there at their regular prices. I'm not seeing DNF. That's odd for any big budget game.

Somehow they sold more I guess. If they've been on Steam awhile and gone through multiple sales this could also be why the numbers for them are higher.

hedwards: The sexual innuendo and such are an integral part of the series. Hence why GR was giggling about it. There's other bits of Duke which can't really be removed, but the notion that it's 15 years later and that somehow means that Duke is less focused on the babes is kind of at odds with the aesthetic of the series.

GameRager: Thanks for replying on my behalf as you saved me the time & said it better than I would ever have.
avatar
StingingVelvet: I dislike Serious Sam/Painkiller style arenas flooded with enemies. Duke is a lot different gameplay wise.
avatar
GameRager: Painkiller/SS are amazing fun and the large areas give you room to run around and dodge attacks......imagine small areas and enemy waves....talk about near impossible.
I wasn't surprised, I merely pointed out that some of it was unnecessary. It can be done in a good way, or in a bad way. It was fine for the most, but I just found some parts unnecessary. GameRager you should make a habit of reading people's posts before you reply.
low rated

FraterPerdurabo: I wasn't surprised, *snipped unneeded ass covering explanaton*. GameRager you should *snipped low blow discredit attempt*.
Fixed for ya.

So from the parts left it seems you weren't surprised by the game's nudity, and I should be doing something. But what??? :\
