Hahaha buy a plane ticket to Australia, buy a PC there and a copy of DNF, play it all non-stop, and fly back to the US.

You'll still make it to the US before the release date. You'll be famous if you do this, think about it man. Do it. Now.
Just saw the beginning of a playthrough on Youtube (with the German version, so I didn't understood any of the dialogue) and it looks like my faith had not been misplaced. Not only this seems like a good old-school FPS, but it brought back what Duke Nukem 3D was famous for: Interactivity. The amount of things you could do (at least in the urban levels) and the amount of details is staggering.

I take it you haven't played the demo. You can take a piss on a turd and the turd jiggles around a bit as you do it. You can draw a penis on the white board with a marker. What's funnier is that the guy standing there won't understand what you just drew but assumes it's brilliant.

I have to wait a few days for my game to unlock, but the demo, apart from the linear game play aspect was more or less exactly what I was hoping for. Pithy one liners, interactive environment and fun weapons.
we might actually see the clone beating the original :D if serious sam 3 is better than this

To be honest, Serious Sam wasn't a clone. And really it's not fair to call it a clone because it's got basically no similarity to Duke. It's an FPS with a humorous streak. But it's lacking the aesthetic which made Duke work, the pithy one liners and the subtlety.

Serious Sam isn't bad, I just think that anybody that's seriously comparing the two hasn't any clue as to the essence of Duke.

GameRager: Frater....surprised a Duke Nukem game has sexual stuff in it.....mfw I have no face as it fell off from giggling.
...?
What?

The sexual innuendo and such are an integral part of the series. Hence why GR was giggling about it. There's other bits of Duke which can't really be removed, but the notion that it's 15 years later and that somehow means that Duke is less focused on the babes is kind of at odds with the aesthetic of the series.

Yeah, Serious Sam is more of an arena oriented FPS.

I've played one of the games a bit, and it's really not the same. It's not a bad game, but the large areas kind of annoy me, and the humor isn't as subtle. Duke wasn't really that subtle with much of the humor, but even the one liners weren't slapping me in the face with teh lolz.

Yup, they both feel really different. While the heroes have strong similarities, I don't think D3D and SS belong to the same FPS subgenre.
I dislike Serious Sam/Painkiller style arenas flooded with enemies. Duke is a lot different gameplay wise.

Thanks for replying on my behalf as you saved me the time & said it better than I would ever have.

Painkiller/SS are amazing fun and the large areas give you room to run around and dodge attacks......imagine small areas and enemy waves....talk about near impossible.

No worries, I was pretty sure that was what you were getting at. It puzzled me a bit that it wasn't perfectly clear. A Duke without boobs is like collard greens that don't taste good or perhaps a tree that's not made out of wood.

I think they're fun, it's just a completely different subgenre. Painkiller also tends to focus more on giving players what they want without any pretext to a story, an idea which should have been cooked up years earlier, like say when they were doing the Catacombs Abyss.

You said wood....very ironically appropriate when talking about Duke. ;)

I was talking more to StingingVelvet actually, explaining why the games were good.........but yeah they're fun ain't they?
