jsdratm: I pre-ordered and tried the demo this morning. I thought it was fun and crude, which is about what I'd expect from Duke Nukem. For all of you saying the graphics look old, I would agree, but it is because they are old. This game was finished by a skeleton crew of people from 3D Realms and I doubt they wanted to start over with a new engine again. Personally, I'd rather have a chance to play the game instead of having it tossed in a rubbish bin somewhere, even if it isn't the fanciest tech. The game will bring closure and nostalgia, which is the main reason I bought it .
Props where props is due......etc

I don't really need to respond to that. It's a very predictable Gamerager comment that will only lead to a very predictable Gamerager conversation.

No, it's a serious question....but go ahead and insult me if you wish.

If you feel that poop/fart jokes are childish and that thinking so makes you better than those that find them funny then yes, you are being very pompous.

You have a habit of posting defensive, overreaching assumptions and loaded questions in response to perceived challenges. I don't generally take your comments very seriously because they're so far over the top. Arguing with you about them is futile.

If I told you I didn't like The Colbert Report, I'd expect you to call me a paranoid rightwingnut with no sense of humor and an axe to grind with the "liberal media." If I said I didn't like McDonald's, I'd expect you to call me a self-righteous health food freak who can't loosen up enough to appreciate good food once in a while.

I could argue with comments like those, but why should I?

I wouldn't do what you said in your example if you worded it succinctly and civilly, but start blathering on crudely and i'll possibly complain about your posting style.

Again, I don't make comments like those all the time, and maybe you should stop assuming the motive/reasoning behind my posts and just respond civilly and not make random judgements based on just your pov.

A typical GameRager response.

Are you here to discuss the game or derail the thread?
Think we will get a level editor? I think this would be a better idea to buy DNF then.

I hear people are modding it already(using jtag and other leaked assets) so yes there will most likely be an editor.....there is a dev console for sure though.
I liked the demo. It left me wanting more. I really didn't notice anything about the graphics because I was too busy enjoying the gameplay. Honestly, I haven't really got anything to complain about as there was nothing obstructing my fun. BTW, are the levels in the demo apart of the game? This was the same exact thing I saw at the E3 booth casts and ect.

The first part is the first level, and the other bits are further in....also the mine level was not shown at PAX/etc.
A much better, well thought out view:

Those who want to play Duke Nukem Forever have already pre-ordered it years ago, and they won't care so much about how old the graphics look, how old-fashined it plays or how linear the levels are. They want more Duke, and that's what they will get. Of course, it will be a game which you will either totally love or hate. Love it for its retro style, its consequent orientation on fast-paced, straight-forward gameplay with maybe flat, but still refreshing humor. Refreshing because not many shooters these days have much humor in them, besides Serious Sam (which is a Duke clone ofc). Hate it for its outdated technology, its lacking level design or whatever.

I am speaking as someone who has pre-ordered the game since December 3, 1998. I am not playing the demo, and I don't want. Only the full version of the game will be accepted by me. Will I really care about all the flaming and negative criticism surrounding the demo right now? Surely, I won't. This is the time when you either see the whole thing through the eyes of a true fan or some sceptic guy who just wants to see this fail after all these years. We have known for a long time it won't be the perfect game, at least not technically speaking. It wasn't possible because eventually they had actually to start using the engine they had been constantly switching for quite some time. That was the moment time stopped for the technological development. What we are about to get now is all that was possible without having to start the whole thing from the beginning yet again.

My suggestion is: Don't judge something you haven't played by yourself yet. The full version might deliver something you can't see in these few demo levels. Sure, the graphics probably won't get much better, but it's not about that. You actually get the GAME! We should be grateful for that. Seems to be a minimalistic point of view, but I can settle for that. I just want something new with Duke in it, after all these years. Most of you around here know what I mean, and those will look forward to the end of next week just as I am.

Just played it, couldn't finish, the endless monster spam at the abandoned mine stopped me.
Well, checkpoints, 2 weapon limit, closed 'one way' maps, regen health, and the monster spam. Well, at least it's playable on the 7600GT, but i'm more excited about Crusader : No Remorse on GOG, and i'll play that one more than Duke this year, surely.

Linear nature is because it's a demo......and monster spam is how it's supposed to play. Monsters come en masse and you shoot em.

If he doesn't care for the gameplay, graphic and anything and only wants new Duke game it's not unbiased opinion, it's fanboyism.
