ale81drummer: I just watched the whole demo being played on YouTube. Looks exactly like some other company trying to make a Duke Nukem game and using all of its licensed goods but failing to nail the charm. People keep arguing in its defense that "this is an old school shooter--therefore it won't appeal as much to modern gamers." Actually, it's not. Instead of health packs, which worked much better for Duke back then, It has regenerative health, and only two weapons can be picked up at a time. It felt like Halo wearing a Duke suit.
Also, the graphics suck. Duke 3D was state of the art back then. Couldn't even get it to run on my PC at the time.
I predict around a 7.5 in reviews. Glad I didn't pre-order.
Starkrun: The Entire demo follows the timeline created at 3D Realms.... the sections the demo has you play were already done scripted and created by 3D Realms prior to Gearbox getting the game...
PM me if you need proof i wont spoil the game for anyone that wants to experience in open forum...
Well it's not so much the levels and scripting that bothered me, it's the gameplay. Check out
this video to see what I mean.
I've been a huge fan of Duke and have owned almost all of the games at some point, and Duke 3D on the PC, PSX and N64. Duke doesn't run behind cover and wait for shields to regenerate; they've turned him into Master Chief. The two-weapon system further exemplifies that.
We'll see how the final product plays, but I'm not holding my breath.
