My thoughts on the DNF Demo.

Graphics...are not spectacular by any means. Had it running all the way up w/ no problems. Eh, not impressed here, technically - didn't expect to be, either.
If this came out a few years ago - this would've been something to look at.

Duke can only hold two gun-weapons at once and some tossing weapons (pipe bombs).
Not sure how I feel about this - I'm use to Duke carrying like 10+ guns and switching through them - a la DN3D.
Makes the game more strategic on what to carry, though.

Gunplay sure feels pretty good.
The typical Duke guns return - Shrink Ray, Ripper gun, Handgun, Shotgun.
The new RAILGUN kicks ass.

EGO meter is your health and can regenerate. No cover system like Gears and many other things, but expect to take cover behind things - A LOT. And expect them to get destroyed, too.

Jon St. John as Duke w/ those one-liners are great. :)

I do want more. Surely, this isn't enough Duke to really give me too much of an opinion - just like how I felt about Crysis 2 Demo and Dragon Age 2 Demo. Just as it's getting going, it feels like I get cut-off way too quickly. I dunno - maybe I should stay away from demos or something b/c they seem to be leaving me feeling, "Geez...that's it for content?"

Goog review there MysterD...which version are you getting, if any, btw?
I was reasonably impressed. I think they managed to cram a lot of the humor that typifies Duke into the demo. And not just the jokes aimed at Duke, there were a few references elsewhere that are presently escaping my mind.

Did you see the Predator reference? "If it bleeds, it can be killed....etc"

To be honest, I can't remember. But I'm definitely considering breaking my no Steam rule for new releases.

And this would be the worst game to break it for.

Duke is one of gaming history's greatest franchises, why would you say that? I can't think of anything else on Steam that's especially a better reason (though I won't be breaking ranks, regardless).

Indeed, my basic options are give Sony money, give Valve money or get it from onLive.

OnLive has gotten a lot better since launch, but it's definitely not good enough for me to buy it from them at this point. Plus, I'm not even sure that I'll have broadband access next year, and I'd like to be able to focus on games that I'll be able to play.

Well, I'd have to say I'd buy an entire Steam library before I bought anything from OnLive. You can always do what I do for iffy games, just swap one of your old console titles for it in a few weeks. People will be tired of it by then.

Then, neither Sony nor Steam get your cash (directly at least).

I kind of like OnLive it's got potential. However, I think my most likely course of action is to wait a few weeks and get it for my PS3 on the second hand market.

But, I definitely don't buy things from them that are full priced, my policy there is mostly the same as it is for Steam, buy only when there's an exceedingly good price. In general though, I tend to go for the all you can eat option as that's a pretty good value and considering that anything you buy from them is a rental anyways, albeit with a really long loan period.

Duke was one of history's greatest franchises. I don't know if you've played the demo, but it's literally the worst demo I have ever played. There are very few games which I wouldn't buy for $5 (I bought K&L2 for $5). Duke Nukem Forever is one of them. It killed everything I loved about DN3D.

I don't know, I just don't see OnLive providing the same value as Netflix... ever. And I like to think games can live on past the death of their maker, that's why I don't support OnLive.

Again, this was never meant to be like DN3D to a big extent.....and also the demo is buggy and old(several have confirmed on duke4/etc that it's the old pax demo just cleaned up a bit)
