And it's in a BIG cardboard box. Kinda wished they went full retro with the default edition, but oh well.

Cambrey: $99.99.
uh.................................

Kabuto: In a year or so, that limited edition will probably sell for $40 or less like several collector editions have like Halo 3 and Bioshock 2
avatar
thelovebat: Yeah, or it could sell expensively like hotcakes like the Mass Effect Collectors editions.
Yes well $100 (incl tax) is expensive for one game. I can't do it.

I know what you mean, while you do get quite a bit for it, I just can't justify spending money on that other stuff. Kind of a shame, because I'd love to have that bust.
Instabuy. Not going to preorder though as much as Gamestop wants me to.
It's safe to say that Gearbox have hit the jackpot here when people are not only preordering the game without seeing a single gameplay video, but preordering $100 ultra-collector's editions.

Then again, Gearbox did make Borderlands.

Oh and,eh, yeah. Preordered. With priority international shipping and perhaps import tax on top the price will come to about $160. :P

Well isn't that what happens with most collector edition pre-orders. Personally I will definitely wait for the demo before even considering buying the game, especially given that Pitchfork is a proud graduate of the Molyneux's school of funky PR. (and the recent trailers didn't really convinced me)

Uhhh, I have seen gameplay video. Not just the trailer, but "rogue" video of the PAX gameplay.

I'm actually getting this despite Borderlands, which I thought was extremely overrated. Most of this was 3D Realms anyway.

The simple fact is I expect this to be a funny and very old-school shooter in many respects, and on top of that it is just a piece of history.

GameRager: Anyone know if GAMESTOP is selling preorders of this collector's edition with the bust and everything? TIA.
This edition is exclusive to Gamestop and Amazon in the US, so yes they do.

That's actually the reason why I will wait for a demo before even considering buying it, just want to be sure it's an old-school-ish shooter and not just a call of duty wannabe with some duke on-liners and strippers thrown in

GameRager: Basically the reviewer pans DNF for BEING "too oldschool", and how it should add in COD/Halo/etc elements, so i'm guessing it'll be very un-COD-like & kickass.
I have, but that "review" doesn't really tell anything apart that the reviewer thought that the game lacked rhythm, I prefer to make my own opinion first.

GameRager: 1. Thanks. I don't wanna support Gamestop but I dunno if Amazon allows one to pay into their preorders a bit at a time like GS does....otherwise i'd go Amazon instead.

2. Did you read this: Duke Nukem Irrelevant?

That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Not Halo or COD-like and being quite old-school. I just finished off Doom II this morning and the updated Doom 3 while good in it's own right, is terrible in comparison to other Doom games since it doesn't feel like Doom at all.

GameRager: I LOVED Doom3, actually. Did you ever try it with any of the graphical mods? There's one that adds in this kick arse railgun secondary fire to the plasma gun and other things like beam sights for the pistol/etc.

Also, did you ever try the Phobos map the community made? Or the official expansion Ressurection of Evil?
I must admit I haven't played a lot of Doom 3 or its expansion but I have played through a small part of each. Resurrection was feeling a lot like Half-Life 2 with the gravity gun playing a large role so I quit after a short while. I here what your saying that these probably get better however, modded content can always make a game better. I can still be less than impressed towards the original unmodified game. I think what does it in the most is the fact I always need to use a flashlight to see and that the game gets dark every 25 feet.

I loved Doom 3 as well, but mostly as its own game since it's nothing like Doom 1 or 2. I'm not someone who demands a sequel be exactly the same, I can like any game on its own merits.

GameRager: Well it WAS a reboot of the franchise so it's not SUPPOSED to be like the old games beyond storyline/setting/etc. It did have some fine points though, including all the mods made for it like The Dark Mod and the phobos mappack.
Where do I get this phobos map pack?

GameRager: Just go to moddb.com and search the Doom3 section for phobos. Basically you play the marine on Phobos(or deimos?) after the teleport experiments go wrong and you gotta clean house. It's kinda a map pack based on how the events played out in the original Doom 1 game, sort of.
Yes, Phobos moon from Doom 1... Blue sky, earth-like gravity... Very realistic.
