Does anyone here have a Droid X? I'm currently waiting for mine to come in the mail. I'm so excited!
My friend has it (I went the HTC route) and it seems really great.
It has the latest touch technology and a QWERTY, so I'd say you'll get the most of productivity out of it.
excuse my dumb question....but what is a Droid X?
Is it a game, is it a robot, is it a smartphone....?

Droid X is US name for Motorola Milestone 2. AFAIK.
I also just got a droid phone. But a samsung one. Super fun! Still figuring out what i can do with it.
I don't have a smartphone. *cries*
But next year, provided I get my shit together, it's the whatever iPhone they come out with next year for me!
I just got the phone, and I'm like a little kid at christmas, figuring out all the fun stuff I can do with it. First impressions so far are awesome.

Is it really locked down by Verizon so you can't use custom ROMS on it very easily? That said, one of the things I don't really like about Android is the sheer amount of fragmentation.

All I know is that Motorola will brick it if you install custom firmware. Other than that, I've heard of other Droid X owners using the emulator apps they sell on the marketplace with no problems (I'm not big into the whole "look I'm playing Genesis games on my phone!" movement myself), so do your research if you're one of those crazy hacker types.
I got the HTC Desire and it's brilliant. Best of the Android phones up to now, too!
I actually got a NES emulator free on the droid marketplace. Have not tried it yet. Any one got good recommendations for apps??

I haven't really used the emulators a lot - the HTC has a bluetooth issue where it won't properly detect devices. Because of that I can't connect my Wiimote with it (yes, you can do that) and so I can't use those emulators. On screen controls on a touch screen are never going to work even a 10th as good as a proper gamepad.
For apps, I'll recommend the following:
- Barcode scanner (a MUST)
- RockPlayer (great media player)
- JustPicture (great image browser
- MixZing (best music player)
- ACV (Comic Book Reader)
- A Online Radio (Digital Radio & Podcasts)
- Astro (file manager)
- APK Manager (APK installer/uninstaller)
- xScope - BEST browser. Don't be fooled by those saying Dolphin. It's faster, uses about half the power, is very responsive, etc.
- OI Shopping List (great for making any type of lists where you can cross off stuff - like "wanted games" or "chores")
- Trillian: for messaging on MSN, AIM, etc.
- Aldiko (ebook reader)
I don't have a lot of recommendations for free games, though, but SCUMMVM works brilliantly.
I have a Droid X. It's my first Android phone. A bit of a learning curve in order to get things the way you want them, like optimizing battery life and performance, but I've grown to really appreciate the customization options.
At first I loved it, I got a little frustrated at times, had to tweak it a bit, and now I really love it.

Thanks for the tips. The barcode scanner is awesome. Is there a way to remove some of the crap apps it came with. Cant uninstall them with the uninstaller app.
I just got Froyo update for the Droid X, and it is wonderful. Everything is running twice as fast, and my battery lasts longer! Plus, Flash is awesome on a phone.
