Let's do the time warp again*!

Welcome to our [url=http://www.gog.com]DRM-Free Time Machine Sale! Fasten your seatbelts and prepare for a fascinating ride to the early days of PC gaming and back again, with 30 excellent titles selected from the years 1983-2013, available up to 90% off (that is for as little as $0.59!). You'll find amazing games in amazing prices featured one by one on GOG.com main page, and before the sale is done you'll be able to complete your very own display of gaming history on a budget below $65 (because this would be the cost to get every single game in the sale). Are you ready?

There's more than just buying games incredibly cheap to our DRM-Free Time Machine Sale! We're ready to pass its steering wheel (or rather the control console) to YOU. Each game in the sale is offered for a limited time only, and how long we stay in its year is up to you! Each time you see a new game on sale you can vote to either add or subtract 1 second from the timer. Each time you buy a game, you add 3 seconds to the time of it being on sale. We begin with 1983's Zork, bundled with the rest of the Zork Anthology of 6 games in total, for only $1.79. How long will it last on the front page? You'll be the judge. What comes next, as the game of 1984? Let's find out!

Let's take a trip in GOG.com's DRM-Free Time Machine Sale! 30 great games from 1983-2013 will be available up to 90% off, and you get to decide how long each game is on sale. Ready? The technomagical gateway to 1983 opens NOW!

* "Again?", you might ask, "when did they ever do the time warp?". Well, once you embark on a journey through time, all becomes relevant and there's absolutely no guarantee that what you are doing, you are doing for the first time. In fact, that's highly improbable. After all, time isn't linear. It's more like a giant wobbly-bobbly goggy-boggy ball of gaming awesome!

KunoNoOni: I have an Atari 800, which I had to buy again as the one I had growing up got lost in a move along with my 2 810 disk drives. I also still have my floppies for it, just no disk drive to use them... I need to check ebay and actually commit to buying one.

Heh, I appreciate you looking for me :)

LinustheBold: Ah, I've been waiting for Spelunky. That's it for me, then! Eleven games added to the giant stack of things to play some day, and a pleasure it was.
avatar
Thistler: Nice work! lol I had a limited budget for this sale and I missed the ones I should have got. I was uming and ahhing about Grimrock and should have just got it lol.

GoG Sales are fun though.
I already have Grimrock on Steam, from some sale long past. I haven't played it yet; I'm still working my way through Anvil of Dawn, which is pretty much Grimrock's great-grandad. Or something. I picked up six gifting titles as well, so soon I can start spreading some of the love back out into the forum - which should be fun!

Stooner: What concerns me is the ghost...
avatar
undeadcow: Yeah... the ghost is lame... and inescapable (although you can escape him in the game, just not the settings)...
yup. And the lack of daily challenges is kinda lame too (if the normal ?campaign? or story, I don't know, isn't enough)

Guess I'll have to wait for the inevitable bundle... ;p
This was a really unlucky sale. I put a lot of effort to try not to miss a game, but not a single decent game that I don't already own came up :(
Dawww, I finally pass out and I miss Grimrock. :(

sirchaox1224: OK, GOG. After this, do a time jump back to 2001. Then we'll be square.
avatar
Melhelix: That would be crazy, if the time machine started glitching out and randomly jumping around, only stopping on a year for like 30 seconds and then moving on. *HINT HINT*
That would be awesome.

Or they could just do a final 1 hour promo with every game in the sale, that would be pretty awesome, too. :]

adambiser: Spelunky - the only game I grabbed from the sale.
I might have grabbed Jagged Alliance, but it went on sale while I was asleep.
Same here. In my case the game was Gothic though.

I might have picked up JA too, but i wasn't around when it appeared in the sale. Ah well, i'm sure it'll come on sale again in the future.

FoxySage: Ah well, i'm sure it'll come on sale again in the future.
Exactly.

And in the meantime, I have plenty of backlog to keep me busy. So no loss at all.
I am wondering if I should wait for the end of the sale. GOG is well known to end the sale with a big fizzle. I just want the chance to buy the Quest series (Police/King/Space).

Will GOG deliver joy to the masses?
avatar
Pabluzcu: Just bought it, and it comes with the "classic" version of Spelunsky as part of the bonus content, thats a nice detail there, just 16mb. I was curious to try the first game, pretty sure is around there to download anyway, but is good to have it already there. Didnt expect it, nicely done Gog, keep it up
Yeah. You can download that for free. But still nice to include it.

I'm sorry, if it had already been posted, but did someone have a list of all the games that had been offered to see what great games did I miss?

@GOG It would be great if after 2013 we could get one or even more games to preoder. Even you would only gave us a 5% off. I'm waiting for months to pay my money for the Witcher 3 or Age of Wonders 3, but I still can't gave you my money.

Please be so kind and take my money!

Yes.
Good morning!

Got up, went to work, just to see that Spelunky (the game I really waited for in this sale) is still discounted. Grabbed a copy immediately and think that the day looks a lot brighter now.

Thank you, GOG! It was quite a fun sale (much better than the Insomnia Sale in autumn).

In case you still want it, check your PM.

The pace still needs tweaking. If the sale was multi-phase, but faster in each of those phases, there'd be a lot less people unhappy about not being able to get their desired items, I think. The Insomnia sale started dragging overall by the third round, but it did three rounds in less than six days. Also, they did 101 games in each round. With this format, it'd take close to a week for every round, if not much, much longer.

I'm considering Spelunky, but I'm afraid I don't know much about it. What is the overall difficulty of the game? And does the missing "Daily Challenge" effect the gameplay at all?

Edit: Anybody?

I came away with 13 total purchases and multiple games (some were multipacks like Star Control 1 + 2). Overall I was happy with the deals I got, since most of these were wishlist games I was waiting on a sale for. Many of them (like Deus Ex) I already owned on Steam, but I bought again on GOG for the extras.

As for the sale promo itself, it wasn't perfect, but it was interesting. I'm glad GOG tried it out, though. This is one sale out of countless others, after all. :)
