There's more than just buying games incredibly cheap to our DRM-Free Time Machine Sale! We're ready to pass its steering wheel (or rather the control console) to YOU. Each game in the sale is offered for a limited time only, and how long we stay in its year is up to you! Each time you see a new game on sale you can vote to either add or subtract 1 second from the timer. Each time you buy a game, you add 3 seconds to the time of it being on sale. We begin with 1983's Zork, bundled with the rest of the Zork Anthology of 6 games in total, for only $1.79. How long will it last on the front page? You'll be the judge. What comes next, as the game of 1984? Let's find out!

Let's take a trip in GOG.com's DRM-Free Time Machine Sale! 30 great games from 1983-2013 will be available up to 90% off, and you get to decide how long each game is on sale. Ready? The technomagical gateway to 1983 opens NOW!

* "Again?", you might ask, "when did they ever do the time warp?". Well, once you embark on a journey through time, all becomes relevant and there's absolutely no guarantee that what you are doing, you are doing for the first time. In fact, that's highly improbable. After all, time isn't linear. It's more like a giant wobbly-bobbly goggy-boggy ball of gaming awesome!

foxworks: Star Control 2, another great game!
Definitely a good game, but I also seem to remember someone had reworked everything in the game to run on a more modern OS and released it as freeware some time back. I definitely enjoyed Star Control 2 the most out of that series. I was hoping #3 would pick up with that super customizable flagship and was quite disappointed when it wasn't really that great anymore. I didn't get drawn into the story the same way, either.
You're missing 2006: Settlers 10th Anniversary is 2006 on the game card... unless you count that as 1996 (like SimCity 2000)

Or do you have some other criteria for selecting those?

randomengine: OK, could someone do me a favor and explain the action elements in this game? I am really not into action-gameplay, but I can tolerate it in games like Might and Magic and Quest for Glory.
Action elements in Star Control? Space ships shooting at each other. Star Control 2 had a bunch of missions and a countdown of sorts going in the game. You also had combat with various alien races and each had different ship types. You could get some pretty cool ships (and some not so good ones) along the way. Finding resources to keep your ship and mission going was often challenging until you got certain technology that helped quite a bit. Space combat, exploration, not so much civilization building.

You explore/mine planets for resources and do frequent melee/strategic battles with other races as you explore and restore order in the galaxy.
So has anyone compiled a LIST yet?

The Ur-Quan Masters. I haven't tried it but I heard about it.

Yes, you're referring to The Urquan Masters (freeware). I never had the opportunity to play #3, but after is was panned, I lost interest.
Good morning!

Seems I didn't miss much while I was sleeping. Thanks to SimCity2000.

I hope I'm equally lucky. I'll need to recharge my batteries in a few!
Well hell, I decided to bite for Star Control 2 at least.
Here's hoping Star Control 1 & 2 get swept away quickly since The Ur'Quan Masters is essentially the same thing, but open-source and free.
Please 1993 be Pirates Gold! Plus

I burned many hours on this one after its release. I hope you get just as much enjoyment!
