And this is the biggest hater of end users saying this so it must be a sign of the apocalypse. Whats next? EA drop DRM and release their entire back catalogue on GOG?

IT'S A TRAP!!!
Perhaps they'll compensate by hiking prices right up (a la Modern Warfare 2)?
We need to be punished, us naughty, naughty gamers.

Yes, some people, like Atari, don't seem to like it when we want to play the game we bought. They'd rather us just buy it and be happy with that.
DRM will never die, it will adapt and assume new forms...each worse than the other..

you know what has to be done then
transform and roll out!
But where is the fun of ripping things if there is no DRM? It takes away all the challenge. :-(
What about getting a good balance of compression & quality?

Sounds like Tyranids, an endless unstoppable ever changing plague
Some people already claim that DRM is dead, because they don't realise what constitutes DRM.
People used to say (don't hear it much these days) that Steam wasn't DRM...
If anything DRM is worse than ever.
See further, C&C4.
well if the great riaa says so...
Uhm, practically the RIAA maximum-morons are saying they are dead, because they are the DRM of music, fucking up the users and sucking musicians' blood since unsuspected times.
Good to know they became aware of their zombieness. Now they should just die and go to hell once and for good before the majors kill them with euthanasia...

Dead rising from the grave.
Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria.
Um... wouldn't DRM dying be bad for GOG if it spills over to gaming? I mean, one of the most attractive aspects of getting the old gems is the DRMlessness. Many of us are here because it's the only legal place you can get a game without DRM.
Then again, it could boost their catalog, since some companies might not have wanted to sell their game without DRM, but if DRMlessness turns into the norm, then the catalog may improve some more and having games without DRM will no longer be a selling point...

And to think that I never actually learned what "DRM" was an acronym for...
