I thought I would start a thread for those that are interested in this topic.

Does anyone believe a word that comes out of John Riccitiello's mouth? I mean, come on...I'm to believe that within months of it's release, spore had outsold Sims 2? Give me a break.
Sort of interesting to note that 2 of the EA class action suits have now consolidated in to one. I think we might see some more of that as court dates start getting closer...more plaintiffs = more attention.

While i don't think one can find actually numbers, according to the NPD charts, Spore outsold the SIms 2 in September, and was doing well (though not good enough to beat Sims 2) in mid-November
Also, while most of what CEOs and stuff say is usally rubbish, i don't think he would lie so plainly if people can show that he is wrong pretty easy.

Not so sure about that. If we are talking strictly PC sales it may not have been all that good. Check out the number of activations MTV reported, and how EA quickly wanted it to say this does not represent sales. However, you cannot play the game without activating it.

Why do you think this? They can say anything that benefits their company even if he cannot really prove their own points.

I was talking about PC sales, otherwise we would have had numbers. NPDs console charts include the amount uf units sold most time. To bad this charts are not really public (didn't find anything when i look once in a while?), so you have to take what you get.
About not lying:
Because, depending on what he says, he can get sued for it (like when telling false revenue numbers knowingly), or it just makes them look bad, which wouldn't benefit the company.

Riccitiello's full of fertilizer.
Just take a look at what he says in that article:
"Everyone gets that we need some level of protection, or we’re going to be in business for free"
So, tell us JR, how well did that 'level of protection' on Spore stop those dirty pirate? What, the game was cracked and pirated days before even going on sale in North America? Wow, that's pretty effective. Guess you guys are in business for free huh?
And I guess companies like Stardock who have no disc protection on their games are in business for free a well? Oh wait, they had the hottest selling game last spring in Sins of a Solar Empire...
"I'm guessing that half of them were pirates, and the other half were people caught up in something that they didn’t understand,"
Hmmm, so if we're complaining about your brilliant DRM scheme we're either pirates or ignorant? That's a mighty good way to categorize your current and potential customer base. So all those legitimate complaints about the problems with SecuROM, the limited activations locking people out of their games, the technical issues, the fact that SecuROM installs secretly and does not uninstall when you uninstall the game, and the fact that the game was pirated even BEFORE it was released in North America despite the DRM... I guess that's just a big non-issue, huh? Brilliant, JR, just brilliant.
Oh, and he mentions a deactivation tool as well. To date, I don't think that's appeared. I could be wrong on that, as I've stopped following the news about Spore, but I've not seen anything to indicate it's a reality yet.
Nope, it still hasn't appeared (the de-activation tool).
Oh, another new lawsuit against EA over SecuROM in the Spore Creature Creator. You can read the filing in PDF form here.
How does one get rid of SecuROM after uninstalling the game it came with?

No problem, and thank you for the positives; it is much appreciated.

If the above instructions won't help (for any reason), then read this tutorial. This site has all the information about SecuROM anyone will ever need :)

Those are the directions I used when I got rid of it. I'm also biased, though, since I am an active member of that site's forums.
