So not a GOG although it seems relevant to the community here. I just got back from watching Dredd by sheer happenstance (never heard anything about it before today) and this was one hell of an action movie.

I'm probably older than most GOGers so I'm a huge fan of the real-deal action movie from 20ish years ago: Predator, Aliens, etc. This movie was right up my alley. If you like action movies that aren't sullied by the dumb shit Hollywood puts into movies these days (romances, conflicted heroes and so forth) you owe it to yourself to watch this movie.

8/10 is my rating but in terms of personal enjoyment it gets a 10/10 from me.

I wouldn't count on it :3

Also, best to post movie stuff in this thread:

Think I might want to see Dredd at some point, if only for the epic slomo.
Too bad they didn't put Rob Schneider in this one. ;)

Ha! Fortunately, even if someone wanted to, there's no room for slapstick humor in this film. That's made clear about 1 minute into the movie.

Rob Schneider is busy being a stapler and a carrot.
I actually got good vibes from what I've seen from the movie snippets. While I have a certain fondness of Stallone's Dredd cheesiness, I'm very much interested in this one. I'll probably be watching it on my weekend (Tuesday).

Sold!
Watched it on Tuesday. 'Twas pretty entertaining... and quite gory in places. Good times! It definitely helps that it is a lot more focused than Stallone's version. Serious, darker, grittier. Karl Urban did a splendid job at playing Dredd.

Seeing it tomorrow! I can't wait. Not springing for the 3D BS either, waste of money IMHO.

I love the Dredd comics, and I am anticipating a much better go-around than the shitty Stallone flick (they even get his helmet right in this new one).
One thing is as I've grown older, I'm not sure I can stomach the sort of hyper stylized violence Dredd seems to have. I'll still see it at some point, but I'm in no rush.
Just got back. It was good. The 3D was on the "way better than most 3D" side, the SloMo drug plot point actually made some of it really awesome.

It's pretty much what one would want from a flick like this.

Depends, I personally think that it's a waste of money because I have a really well developed sense of space and movies ang games just look 3D to me. Yes, even ones filmed in 2D look like they're receding into the screen.

That being said, I'm not sure it's worth the money even for people who don't have such well developed spacialization skills. Usually these movies are filmed in 2D and digitally altered to be 3D and the effect is generally terrible.

I'll have to put this on my list of movies to see when I get back home because I doubt I'll be able to see it here in the PRC.
Cool I was thinking about seeing it but after all the negative comments on Total recall I was not sure.

Damuna: I found the 3D entirely pointless.
I'm not sure what you're cut off is for decent 3D, it certainly wasn't Avatar, but it wasn't as bad as Toy Story 3 or Prometheus. I found it to be muted in a lot of cases, small shards of glass or droplets of blood instead of the end of a large plane or something.

I would go out on a limb as say Avatar is the only movie I've so far seen that actually used 3D well, I wasn't disgusted by the 3D in Dredd, I found it on the better side of "acceptable", but that is merely opinion, I don't have anything, really, but my general impression (I tried to google whether the 3D was worth the premium before going, came up with bupkiss, so I simply risked it since the 3D one as at the ideal time for me).

So I guess it's like it always is: the 3D may or may not be worth it:)

Yes, and if this hasn't somehow been noted, the gore in this movie is on the high end, those with a preference to not see very graphic gore should consider waiting for a DVD release so they're only out 3 bucks or so if they have to cease watching it.
