Is there a freely available Dragon Age Origins playable demo out there for the taking? Before anyone answers just "yes", the question is, where?
This question / problem has been solved by Coelocanthimage
No demo for Dragon Age.
Why would anyone want a DAO demo?
Seriously, DAO's huge - big as heck.
Took me 105 hours to finish.
Epic as can be.
DAO's a masterpiece.
Anyone who loved BG2 (party-based RPG) and The Witcher (dark fantasy world) would likely love this game.
Well, Baldur's Gate 2 had a demo... and that was huge for the time, it took a whole CD! 650MB!
I'm pretty sure I got it with a magazine, as I doubt I downloaded it on the 28.8k modem we still had back then.
Demos are a good way to test the game for people who don't want to pirate even for demoing purposes, but I can certainly see publishers only seeing the currency signs and going "wait, so we do this work of getting a playable version to people, and we don't get paid for it? Can't have that, we need to get them to buy the game if they want to try it."

If DAO was to have a Demo, then Bioware might have to force a player to be a certain type of character in the demo - since the game does have different openings...
RPG's rarely get demos, some JRPGs but thats beside the point. Never expect an RPG demo. However, it was thanks to the Titan Quest demo that I bought that game, and it's one of my favorites.

Or they could have the demo be the part at Ostagar, before the battle. It's early enough that it could work well.
Don't worry about it, just buy it.
Dragon Age: Origins is the best RPG in years. Just buy it.
Buy Risen too.

I've come to know Risen, which I'm currently playing, through a playable demo. I generally don't go for RPG demos, but lately this changed a bit.
Anyway, thank you everyone for letting me know there's none. :)
Did you like Baldur's Gate? Do you like Bioware's writing style including betrayals and romantic subplots? Can you look past slightly wonky graphics? Do you like your games with a crapton of Mods?
If you answered yes to all those questions then:
Buy Dragon Age: Origins digital deluxe edition, buy Return to Ostagar, buy Dragon Age: Origins Awakening and kiss goodbye to 80 hours of your life.
I can't believe this game is already £12. Given the review scores and the amount of hours it's supposed to have, that's ludicrously good value. I'm still holding off getting it though. Too much backlog + strong possibility of a GoTY just make it a non-option right now.
Unfortunately I guess they can get away without a demo - the game should sell itself among the hardcore audience by word of mouth, and the non-hardcore might be swayed by the TV ads.
I loved DA:O - I finished it twice using different characters, back-to-back, and had a blast both times. That's the first time I've ever done that with an RPG.
Still undecided on Awakening, though - it's almost the same price as other AAA games on my to-do list.
I shudder at the thought of how many alphanumeric codes I'd be required to enter on Bioware's website if I bought a GoTY edition :P

They should have released a demo for each openning and allowed the player the option of importing their character into the full game. They could have offered it from their site as a 99 cent download with a 10% discount on the purchase of the full game.
