I've been constantly puzzled by the trailers for Dragon Age.
They began with CGI only general nothingness (to be expected with early trailers), with mediocre voice acting.
Next up I saw an in-game trailer, which was better, but closer to NWN2 than BG. Good.
Then, I saw an even better in-game trailer, showing battles, and how the interface and stuff would work. Much better.
Recently though, they have shown blood-n-guts trailers, with Marilyn Manson soundtrack. I don't know what they're trying to do exactly... people suggest they are going after the "action" crowd, but surely thats way off where they should be aiming?
Surely the best thing is to keep the core fans in the bag (and the website does this as there are plenty of in-game videos), while trying to reach Mass Effect, Oblivion and Final Fantasy fans.
Far easier surely to pull in action-rpg fans or jRPG fans than to try and convince people that its an action-packed gore-fest.
Is it just mad marketing boys? the publishers? who knows really, but thankfully I've seen almost enough of the actual game for it to be a must-buy.

I personally wouldn't trust those minimum specs to result in anything playable, especially given what the recommended specs are. There's so much bullshit regarding all aspects of marketing leading up to a big release that I'm personally of the opinion that it's best to just ignore all of it and see what actual buyers have to say once the game comes out (and preferably also play through a demo, although as someone else said Bioware doesn't seem to be too fond of those). So the marketing folks can continue to tart the game up to try to pull in whatever the demographic of the week is; I'll be continuing to ignore it all.

Yeah it's common practice -- I don't get why they do it though, it's just going to piss customers off.

Hmm, might be worth investigating it on PC rather than on 360 then. Then again the 360 version will probably look better than anything my poor old lappy can render and mods aren't an issue for me... Oh well I'll probably see whichever version is cheaper online and just buy that

Aint going to a problem with the specs at least. I've been so-and-so with this game. It sounds promising that it will be up the venue of BG and Torment, but considering what people keep saying I may just wait till after its released and get some first impressions from the crowd here before I run out and buy it...although I am sure I will (be suckered to)anyways :P

Usually yeah but shopping online can produce some pretty big changes in price, sometimes I can get 360 games for 3/4 the price of a PC game

Great, specs are low.

Min (yeah right) specs are low at least. So I should be able to run it with no issue. And a disc-check is a bonus over their recent actions.
But something about the way they've tried to market it (that I can't pinpoint what) for the last 6+ months has turned me off it. I know marketing hype can get a little bad, but I'll be one of those waiting to see what people say.

Same here. Latest trailers and videos have been kinda disappointing, so I will just wait for a couple of good reviews before I give EA my money.

Hmm.. yeah, I'm going for the wait and see approach as well. I kind of disliked anything RPG-ish after BGII.
And my laptop is probably going to have problems with the game, barely meeting the minimum specs video card wise. I'm not a big fan of gog just because the games are good, the fact that they are old also is a big plus =P
