This kind of made me sad since I got an unused PC version of dragon age 2 sitting around and I was planning on selling it online. Anyone here is interested in exchanging DA2 w/ some games here on GOG?

zteman: That's not my opinion but that's what the open market deem the value of DA2 is. I just sold it on Ebay at a whoping $6. This just shows you how crappy the game is. I sold NEVERWINTER NIGHTS 2 for $10 on Ebay this year as well and that game is hmmm quite a few years old.
Yeah, you're right, I've pay about 5 or 6 bucks just to say I played it. I sure as hell am not buying it new, no reason to reward the way that turned out, even on long tail sales.

I got a copy of JA2, Mean Streets and Dragonsphere to trade if you want :-)

Wait, isn't DA2 one of those super cool activation titles on PC? Why would anyone want it, I'm honestly asking?
6$ bucks?!

I wish I could DA:O for that price in a box for the Mac. That would make me happy. As for DA2 if I could get a box set for that price and again for the Mac I would think about getting it.

I haven't used any of the codes for DA2 or activated the online pass for that copy. There was a problem with the shipping and I went ahead and ordered another one because I thought the game was lost in back in March. Now the USPS decided to finally deliver the package, so I'm sitting on two copied of DA2 right now.

lukipela: The game is not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Most of the valid complaints arent even noticeable until you get into the later half of the game. And most of the other complaints(explosions and big boobs) are just people that are either heard it from someone else or are being intentionally thick headed as the explosion and massive boob parts are intentionally exaggerated by the narrator when he is embellishing part of the story and he almost always mentions it when he does it.

Honestly, the game is worth a playthrough just for the dialogue. The dwarf is hilarious and listening to the the women characters interact with eachother is also funny.
No, it's not people being intentionally thick headed, it's you being ignorant.

The explosions happen throughout the entire game. Enemies explode from a single arrow, from a dagger poke, when Hawke farts in their general direction, you name it and they'll explode, throughout the entire fucking game, not just during Varrric's 2 or 3 bullshit segments, like the tutorial or Varric's bullshit showdown with Bartrand, segments that lenght wise make for a neglectable percentage of the game.

Bioware wouldn't admit that they screwed up the 'math' that determines the frequency of the 'explosions' and they sure as hell wouldn't go about trying to fix it in a patch if the 'explosions' were just happening when they're supposed to as you claim, because then the game's behaviour would be the intended beahviour in regards to that aspect and there would be nothing to fix.

"...they're less likely to explode into puddles of blood and gore all the time.." You do understand what 'all the time' means, right ? Those are Bioware's own words on the subject.

Most of the valid complains aren't even noticeable until you get into the later half of the game ?

-Endless waves of trash mobs
-Endless waves of parachuted trash mobs
-Cloned areas
-Cloned encounters
-Shitty level design
-Huge ammount of assets straight out of 'Bioware's common pool of stuff'
-Virtually deserted Kirkwall
-Virtually deserted Kirkwall with an insanely high rate of twins and triplets walking about with dead_refugee's model
-Shit quests
-Generic loot
-Abysmal party interaction mechanics
-Fugly nal'ves (yeah, those aren't elves)

Most or likely all of the above are noticeable long before the end of CH1 and that's not even a comprehensive list.

Frankly i'm having a hard time understanding what exaclty you were doing during those 3 playthrough's you mentioned. Was it so bad that you turned it down to casual and you were reading a book or something while the game played itself ? Because if that's what happened, no one would ever blame you, but you really shouldn't count those as proper playthrough's.

I agree though, if you can grab it for five bucks it's worth a playthrough.

I installed a mod that disabled the explosive death animations for everything but death_by_magic. A great improvement but it occasionally resulted in DAO's 'I'm still standing' corpses that took 2 minutes to fall down.

Heh, I laughed every time I replayed the duel with the Qunari leader, there's a crowd of nobles gathered and every single one is an identical twin, not just their faces but their outfits too. I think its part of Dragon Age 'lore' now that Kirkwall is renowned for identical twins.

As for the party interaction, It was mighty convenient when party members sent your journal an SMS (text message) reserving a bit of time for you to go to their 'home' and have a face to face chat. I wished they'd learn to use twitter so I could have gotten their latest whinge/update on the go, in 140 characters or less. Maybe with a convenient option to Like/Dislike their comments?

I'm pretty much done with the game but it's good to see that the modding community still tries its best to salvage what little can be salvaged from this train wreck. It's a pitty that likely there will never be a toolset for DA2, i would love to see what modders would come up with to correct some of the most glaring flaws in the game. I have no doubt that the mod you mentioned makes for a great improvement, that aspect of combat is beyond ludicrous in its vanilla state

I wouldn't put that twitter idea past Bioware ;)

Seriously, it's abysmal how the Champion of Kirkwall behaves like a pathetic lady in waiting when it comes to having a chat with a friend/companion. Awakening was already a step back in terms of party intreaction but DA2 took it to a whole new level of 'bad design'.

Regarding the twins and triplets in Kirkwall, the unique model count in DA2 is so low it's not funny.
In any case, Bioware is firmly on my shitlist because of the DRM that I got with my Bioshock purchase ;)

I don't get it.
Due to this game i intend only to buy mass effect 3 just to finish ioff the series and hen not buy another bioware game until they decide to stop producing dumbed down rubbish. I used to love that company but DA2 destroied my love for them i feel it has to be the worst game of 2011.
I thought it was pretty meh until I played The Witcher 2. Now DA2 just looks like garbage.

zteman: I buy all my games with the intention to sell it to recoup my cost so no, the guy received ALL my pre-order DLCs, expansions blah blah and I think even the ME2 promotion. Transferred all my account logins to him. Every new game means a new account. So its not $6 for a box but for the full blown game.
Christ that sounds like a massive pain in the arse. However, I gotta hand it to you, I do like the idea of sticking it to EA for trying to destroy the second hand market :).
Granted I don't have the full game and only a demo of DA2. However, I can say that depending on one's settings and play style. I noticed the terrible camera view and 1 other issue about the characters speaking. Where the timing is off. One can come across said problems or may not come across the majority of the issues said. So lukipela while you may feel that nothing majorly was wrong with the game in your play through may not hold true for the next guy and visa versa, right?

So let's try to state our opinions or issues fairly on here without getting into the mud slinging.

Just trying to keep the peace in here folks.
