I'm happy to be right. I said he would sound like a hypocrite and I was right. In many ways DA2 was made to his exact specifications given his critisisms about DA:O and now he wants the things he hated back.

Yahtzee is a hypocrite based on his DA:O review? I'll need to watch both side by side then.

Sign of a good game that someone who doesn't like RPG's played it for 25 hours. He still nit-picked and tore it apart as you said then destroyed DA2 for the things he hated that were removed.

Yeah, but that's what he does, it doesn't necessarily means that he really hated everything he tore apart, it just means that he has to tear something apart otherwise the checks stop arriving in the mail.

If you watch his DAO review again he even ends up justifying why some of the things he tore apart are the way they are and why in the end they work out better that way.

I really don't get any 'serious' strong dislike from his DAO 'review', his DA2 'review' is a different story though. Besides, even if he really had some changes in mind i doubt rush, lazy and sloppy were amongst them and those are fair game regardless of how anyone feels about DAO.

They made an awesome button. That's pretty much what Yahtzee has been campaining for ever since his review of Painkiller. They gave it to him and it sucked.

Just seen the Zero Punctuation, he sums it up absolutely perfectly at the end: DA 2 is a holding pattern.

Well, I didn't rewatch the Painkiller review again, but as far as his DA:O review goes the only thing they changed that he complained about was putting gear on his followers. They nixed that for the sequel, so that should have been plus one in his book. Otherwise I didn't see him waffle between the two.

Ever saw his Arkham Asylum review? He concluded it by saying "Anything I didn't mention is fine", despite spending a good three minutes nit-picking. If you came to Yathzee for a fair and balanced review, then you're doing it wrong. Having re-watched the video in question, his main problem is "it's a standard fantasy setting RPG" and "if you've played a previous Bioware game, it's very similar" and yet overall Yathzee gave it a thumbs up if you like that sort of thing. No such recommendation for DA2. Also, re-watching the Painkiller review, I presume you're referring to the gun that shoots shurikens and lightning, which I don't recall seeing anywhere else, outside of the Bulletstorm review.

Ultimately, I can't help but come to the conclusion that you're hating Zero Punctuation for the sake of it.

Isn't he negative about everything? I always see people quoting ZP as some kind of "yeah your game sucks!" backup but the whole gag is he thinks everything sucks, right?

Anyway everything he said was right.

He admitted some time ago it's a shtick he's locked into now. The audience hates it when he is nice to a game. See his review of Bioshock, for example, in which he had to work really hard to come up with enough negatives to fill his five minutes.

However, it is fairly easy to learn to read between the dick jokes; once you do, you'll see he's actually attempting to do not reviews, but honest, genuine criticism. Read his Extra Punctuation columns sometimes, the guy does know what he is talking about, and doesn't actually think everything sucks. Except all those play-it-safe games that don't even pretend to innovate; he really hates those.

He complained about those? I thought his DAO review was actually criticising the viewpoint that the standard fantasy setting was bad, and was pointing out that DAO's strengths were where it was the standard fantasy setting because it works while it's attempts at being dark were silly? He derides games for giving classes weird names when 'Warrior, Mage, Thief'' works just as fine, I thought he was praising DAO as a nerd's wet dream! Hell, his "It's a typical bioware game" I thought was meant to be a good thing, hence his "They don't get points from me for good writing anymore" meaning "I expect it from them".

No hating exactly but I am certainly growing tired of his "everything sucks" attitude. Like the boy who cried wolf how are you supposed to know what he likes? Looking at his reviews it would be easy to assume he hated everything which is clearly not true. He's playing to his crowd and there is nothing wrong with that. However when you then compare his previous reviews he does come across as hypocritical because he will often bash a sequel for changing something he bashed in the original.
