Sometimes you want to place an AOE spell between (or in front of) enemies though. This system doesn't allow for that.
This was acknowledged on the social site as something they where addressing, suggesting its still in the gold master. That is, if you're referring to the difficulty of specifically clicking the ground and having to place the mouse cursor
between arms and legs etc. The impression I got was possibly something like WoW's click through setting.
...as a camera positioning mechanic I guess it would work, if the camera reverts to a player-controlled character after the spell/skill is activated.
In PCGamer Uk's podcast one of the guys has played the review release (30 hours, 60 minutes) on the PC (obviously) and it contains the free-moving AoE camera that was inexplicably not present in the
PC demo. The AoE camera moves freely with the spell/ability as focus, you can free move it all over the battlefield just like the isometric camera from DAO on PC.
Once you click to target the AoE ability or cancel the ability (esc) the camera returns to the selected party member. He admits to using this to free roam the battlefield and get an idea of things.
I have every confidence this camera could be modded (simply by adding a no effect AoE ability, even) to effectively give you a free roaming camera on demand.
