are there people who played the console version? I heard that it feels better on a console and that it turned origins basicly into a console rpg so i am tempted to buy it eventually on a console, didn't really enjoy the pc demo though... (I just like playing a game on the platform it is best suited for).
I stopped my 2nd playthough in the 1. Act because there were so many boring quests which hardly gave any rewards. But you have to do most of them to progress the main quest line.
So i cannot judge Bethany, but my main gripe with DA2 is that
EVERY SINGLE npc mage is a stupid jerk.
The only clever ones are the qunari that does suicide and the one that flees the Gallows only to get laid.
All other are just idiots who turn into abonimations at the slightest hint of resistance. Or do some other bullshit like Merril and the elf keeper:
!!SPOILER WARNING!!

So merril tries to free some arch demon because she is stupid. Solution? Keeper frees demon before merill can do it and puts it into herself and then expects other to clean up the resulting mess. Fight stupidity with more stupidity!

Anders is fed up with Templars suppressing and absuing mages.
Solution? KIll everone BUT the templars. *Head explode*
Well, Bioware did one or two good things in DA2.

1st - Custcenes. Full of motion, nicely directed, etc etc.
2nd - Dialogue system. I know there are many dialogue list fans, but giving Hawke more identity and voice did huge job to storytelling. I think it's because individualized heroes are more likely to be remembered, like Shepard from ME2, than anonymous , fully created heroes.

And everything else is just horrible. Some may like more intense combat, but I didn't. The story is decent.

orcishgamer: I am not touching this game with a 10 foot pole until:

1) I can get a GOTY edition for a deep discount
2) The fan made patches have created something worth playing

Seriously, I've played third rate games with less issues than the complaints I hear about DA2.
You really think this will get a GOTY version on the same year Skyrim gets released?

Not to mention that 6 months down the road there's barely ONE DLC module available that extends the gameplay (Two if you count the prince one), and no announced bigger DLCs or expansions.

There's just no need for a "GOTY" edition, the way its going, if it gets one it'll just be a repackage of the regular edition. Just get regular at a discount when it goes on sale :P

Plenty of games get Game of the Year editions, it really doesn't mean anything other than it's a compilation and final version. Two Worlds 2 is getting a GOTY edition FFS. I'm sure there will be a Dragon Age 2 GOTY simply because they have all those incredible paid for reviews to justify it.

But they don't really have the added content to justify it, considering those editions are mostly done so that people double-dip.

Also Dragon Age: Origins never got a GOTY, but an "ultimate" edition containing the expansion and all DLC (Which was quite a bit). Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 never got GOTY or compilations of any kind.

Not yet but they will and DA2 isn't even a year old yet. Even though it certainly feels like it.

Yeah but... 6 months down the road with DA:O we already had several DLC packs, an expansion out and a sequel announced. DA2? Nothing.
I agree with Delixe. Even Deus Ex had an GOTY edition. It just means it's the best, the most complete and updated edition of a game, with some extras included, and nothing else.

Of course, Dragon Age 2 shouldn't have any claims for Game of the year title :P

We would have been swimming in DLC by now if Bioware had their way. All of it was delayed thanks to the realtively low sales of DA2. If DA2 had been the smash hit they were expecting it to be then we would have had about 4 DLC's by now.

This altho I'll play the GOTY edition on Xbox or PS3 if it gets released for those. I'm just not paying full price for a piece of shit, when I'd rather have the whole shit :D

The console version lacks the hi res texture pack they released for PC (so they're lying when they talk about same experience on all platforms, or at least hypocritical). At any rate, it will look worse and there's nothing about the console that will improve the gameplay really (no tactical view, etc.), same experience worse graphics I'd say. Of course, you can get rid of it when you're done or trade it for something else so the console version may be worth it for you if you are just going to do one playthrough.

Well, GOTY has come to mean "has all the DLC included" which is what I want. Whether that's one DLC and or a lot is pretty irrelevant to me, I just want all the content available to me if I buy it. Otherwise I might as well borrow it from a friend for a few days and cruise through it (which may be what I do anyway).

Apart from the "fake" choices the player gets to make, and the total of three dungeons, and the graphics glitches, and the ridiculous dialog, the thing that bothered me the most was the combat. Because the combat... COULD have been good, with minimal effort. It was the randomly spawning waves that did it.

The tactical aspects of the combat show themselves in the very start of the fights, because at that time you can place your party members in the right places and actually use some of the area spells to their best effect. But there's no way to, say, protect your spellcasters behind the fighters, or block the enemy by fighting in a doorway, or outmaneuver your enemy into a tactically superior position... because you're going to be getting 2+ waves, showing up in an unpredictable location, but usually behind you.

It's similar to what happens with enemies in Left 4 Dead, but that is a VERY different game, an action-style multiplayer experience built on teamwork where every character is functionally identical. Not a semi-realtime RPG with great variation in character abilities. It just doesn't WORK with DA2 for enemies to literally drop out of the sky.

If the waves had been handled differently, the combat could have been much, much better.
