I picked this up the other day while on sale expecting it not to be very good, I was a big Origins fan but after reading some player reviews and Metacritic I thought I would hold off on 2. So far I am really enjoying it, I even bought some DLC for it. Its different then the first but I went in to this knowing that, I guess I dont understand why so many people hated it. I was wondering peoples thoughts on this?
Wait till you get to Act 3.

Why everyone complains about act 3?

I thought it was okay..

Anything I say will involve spoilers so I won't comment yet. Needless to say there is very little in the way of choice in the game.

I rather enjoyed the fact the story felt like something different, for all its quality, DA1 was still a very generic fantasy plot about the chosen one blazing through the land to defeat an ancient evil & save the world. I quite liked how the sequel was a radical departure with a normal person at its centre and tying it to kirkwall gave it some actual continuity of a sort.

The endless repetition of the same dungeon map, THAT was worth bitching about

Re-used areas and the fact 90% of loot is useless are just two of the major problems. After playing it a second time it's now the story that really makes my blood boil.

The same reason why everyone hated Deus Ex: Invisible War. If it were any other game, with any other title, I like to think that many of the flaws that punctuated IW would have been tolerated a lot more, and more people would have appreciated it to a higher extent. But when you slap a well-established name on a game, especially a name that's synonymous with a deeply immersive and highly enriching game experience, you'd better deliver or else your customers are going to roast you alive.

From what I've seen, DA2 would have been a perfectly respectable, albeit flawed RPG. But since it was a Dragon Age game, a lot of people went in expecting, well, a game a lot like DA. Suffice to say, a lot of people were very disappointed.

Then again, Bioware has all but directly admitted that it was a poorly-planned rushed cash-in that was supposed to profit off of the buzz surrounding DA:O. I'd consider that more the fault of EA than Bioware.

The end choices are triple facepalm worthy.
That said, most of the game is horrible. I still can't wash off the thought of repeating environments. And their so-called tactical combat.

/Salute. You can actually stomach a 2nd playthrough. I don't even wanna dream about it.

I bought Legacy after all the positive feeback it was getting and it's true I did like it, the only bad part of Legacy is having to go back to Kirkwall again.

I'd rather play DAO for the 3rd time or Baldur's Gate 2 for the 6th time.
The combat system is much better in 2 than in DAO and is less sloggish but pretty much everything else in the game sucks like reused areas, same dungeons, boring charactes and forgettable story.
