Whitewraith: I picked this up the other day while on sale expecting it not to be very good, I was a big Origins fan but after reading some player reviews and Metacritic I thought I would hold off on 2. So far I am really enjoying it, I even bought some DLC for it. Its different then the first but I went in to this knowing that, I guess I dont understand why so many people hated it. I was wondering peoples thoughts on this?
The same reason why everyone hated Deus Ex: Invisible War. If it were any other game, with any other title, I like to think that many of the flaws that punctuated IW would have been tolerated a lot more, and more people would have appreciated it to a higher extent. But when you slap a well-established name on a game, especially a name that's synonymous with a deeply immersive and highly enriching game experience, you'd better deliver or else your customers are going to roast you alive.
From what I've seen, DA2 would have been a perfectly respectable, albeit flawed RPG. But since it was a Dragon Age game, a lot of people went in expecting, well, a game a lot like DA. Suffice to say, a lot of people were very disappointed.
Then again, Bioware has all but directly admitted that it was a poorly-planned rushed cash-in that was supposed to profit off of the buzz surrounding DA:O. I'd consider that more the fault of EA than Bioware.
