Dr.M. has stolen our marketing plans, taken our game masters, absconded with our video trailers, and pilfered our contracts! Coala suggests that we should track down the evil Dr., but how in the world can we do that? We know that he has our "Get HUGE" formula, and we suspect that Dr. M. is going to the headquarters of our next publisher--and we know it's one of the five we've already mentioned in our CDP Days Conference this Spring. One of our clever developer guys pointed out that the only way that Dr. M. could have found GOG's secret headquarters (as opposed to our regular, non-secret one) would be to have put a tracking device somewhere. We've tracked Dr. M's tracker (ha! Take that, evil!) and we're plotting his location on a world map with each of our possible upcoming publishers' locations in them. Keep tuned for more updates as we triangulate on the signal and try to track down...the DASTARDLY DR. M.!

the mysterious Dr. M. made his appearance was way back in September, when we re-launched and moved the service out from the beta. Now, with the big announcement quickly approaching, it seems that Dr. M. has come out of the shadow once again. What's he up to this time? Find out more in the tale of great horror, entitled "Dr. M. & The Dastardly Doom". What horrors await? What grim future is coming to GOG.com?

We'll be posting the next pages of the comic in the next days so stay tuned to this news post as the story will reveal more info on Dr. M. and the secret briefcase!

Juujikayuukyou: I'm rather hoping it'll be an announcement with every publisher mentioned and not just one.
Heads would explode if that was the case....

rjspring: I don't have a modern enough system to play the latest games, that coupled with my insistence of not paying more than $10 for game purchases makes GOG my only source of digital gaming goodness.
Yeah my system (2007) won't play many of the new ones either. It's nice that every GOG I own, can be played at the highest graphics settings! It's nice not being bothered by system reqs anymore! I can't even play Civ4 at the highest settings, and that was released 2 years before my system was built!

I've been at GOG just 35 days now. I have already bought +been gifted/won more games this last month at GOG, than I have bought in the last 6 or 8 years. I pretty much stuck with the Civ titles until they jumped the shark with steam. So I jumped ship to Stardocks Elemental War of Magic. But that was epic Fail! So then I found myself here. And now I've more games than I can currently play! And if SMAC becomes available, then I'll add yet another game. Good chance that I might try out some other games as well.
Steam and GoG have different target audiences and offer different products, hence it is rather unlogical to compare them. I use both, although I do not really like steam. I use when there is no other option or a really good price for a game. I.e. I love Counter-Strike so I had to buy it from steam. F.E.A.R collection for £6 on christmas sale was a nice bargain.
I hope both services will continue to offer outstanding products.

p.s. yes, having to have steam running and the fact that I have to be online to play single player games on Steam is a pain.

I'll definitely second that. I really liked Alpha Centauri, but never could get my hands on the expansion pack despite lots of effort.

Longcat: Heh, I didn't mean to insult anyone....I respect those who earn my respect, and so should you.
avatar
hulksjedi: What? what's wrong with you pla! OMG! you think that by insulting me you just earned my respect?

HA HA HA HA!

Sad mate. Really sad.

Is that your moral code, uh? insult someone and earn respect?

And what, you're trying me to live up to your moral code now? you pretend I respect you because you insulted me.

No no no no, sorry, apparently you didn't. Because you never meant to insult me. That's right. You aren't even man enough to say I'm sorry.

Your logic is flawed. People won't respect you for being a jerk, people will just ignore you.

I just came here and though I could add something to the discussion and first thing I got is an insult. I know 99% of the users here aren't like that. But you aren't making me think being at GOG community is that good either.

Really. Nice way to take care of the community guys.

One post and I am called retarded.

Thanks TaliaKiranaLurker for letting me know about the grayed out thing in a nice way. Now that's a way to answer to someone. That's a good community member.

That's what I respect.
You misunderstand. i don't really care if you respect me or not, after all why should you, you've never met me and I've never met you. The only thing I have to judge you by is the single post you made on these forums, and that's what I'll do.

If you are insulted, that is with all respect(pun intended) YOUR problem. What difference does it make to me? I fell annoyed or violated by hundreds of things I read or see every day but you don't see me going around complaining about them? What would the world come to if everyone did that. If you feel insulted, maybe you'll read a bit more before you post for the first time in a new forum. Complaining about it to me sure isn't going to help.

I never meant to insult you, because frankly, I myself would never feel insulted by a forum post on the internet. It is, when you think about it, just a string of text on a webpage. No need to commit suicide.

You expect me to say sorry for something I'm absolutely not sorry about by doing the same thing to me that you are accusing me of doing to you. Insulting me. "You are not man enough, bla bla bla". Who cares? I don't. I'm not insulted at all. I'm selfconscious enough not to give a crap about something that seriously does not affect my life. Read and learn or simply read and move on.

You certainly don't seem to ignore me.

If you want to add something to a discussion, the best thing to do is to learn all the facts first. That is, in essence, what you should take away from this experience. If you want a welcome you should try something along the lines of "Hi, I'm new here! Hope to meet lots of interesting people and learn how to be a part of this fine community". Using your flagshipped logic, if you know 99% percent of GOG users are not like me, you SHOULD think the GOG community is a good ting. It's simple math.

In conclusion, I am sorry. Sorry that I took the time to write this long post to explain something that should be elementary to a grade school child.

Welcome to the community. You can keep your respect.

Oh, I couldn't play it without expansion pack. It made so many improvements to the original game. balance, diplomacy tweaks etc. Hope You find it. Or even better, hope we all find it here on GOG soon. It's my favourite Sid Meier game.
Ok, less than 20 min to go.. I must say I've got good feelings ... My kids fell asleep surprisingly quick today (I take it as good omen), I've got a cold bottle of Noteckie Ciemne (polish beer from small, local brewery) & peanuts beside me... So I'm ready. Gog - it's all in your hands now.
Man, there are alot of people over waiting at the ustream channel. The crowds been big for awhile. I checked in an hour ago and already the crowd was big. Less than 15 minutes now! See it live @ http://www.ustream.tv/channel/cdp-summer-days
I think I got it : GOG is actually merging with Steam in order to wider it's audience... That's the only plausible explanation... *faint and fall from chair* - OH, THE HORROR ;)

Such a long rant! I won't even read! got to do other stuff besides hearing you rant about respect!

Cheers!

WhiteElk: Good chance that I might try out some other games as well.
GOG has a great library of adventure games which are my favorite. There are some awesome titles if you have any interest.
I'll ignore the video and just wait for the text-version.
