Dr.M. has stolen our marketing plans, taken our game masters, absconded with our video trailers, and pilfered our contracts! Coala suggests that we should track down the evil Dr., but how in the world can we do that? We know that he has our "Get HUGE" formula, and we suspect that Dr. M. is going to the headquarters of our next publisher--and we know it's one of the five we've already mentioned in our CDP Days Conference this Spring. One of our clever developer guys pointed out that the only way that Dr. M. could have found GOG's secret headquarters (as opposed to our regular, non-secret one) would be to have put a tracking device somewhere. We've tracked Dr. M's tracker (ha! Take that, evil!) and we're plotting his location on a world map with each of our possible upcoming publishers' locations in them. Keep tuned for more updates as we triangulate on the signal and try to track down...the DASTARDLY DR. M.!


the mysterious Dr. M. made his appearance was way back in September, when we re-launched and moved the service out from the beta. Now, with the big announcement quickly approaching, it seems that Dr. M. has come out of the shadow once again. What's he up to this time? I'm also sticking with EA,. simply because the French monk states in one of the comic strips that it's going to increase the size of the range of games hugely.

Could certainly be Doom, but Doom is an Activision IP at the moment (and GOG has already signed up with Activision), and id technically isn't a publisher. Besides, id doesn't actually have THAT many games.

Same problem with LucasArts. Star Wars games aside - LucasArts doesn't actually have THAT many titles.

Could also be Take Two, Square Enix, Sega or THQ though.

Now that Residual has finally made Grim Fandango completable, I guess it is a good time to release LucasArts classics on gog.
I really don't care which one is the new publisher signed - all have games in their catalogue I want.

But after some thoughts, I really want it to be EA. Why?

Because it's an ultimate goal for GOG.com, EA catalogue is not possible to get anywhere else. And because EA is difficult to sign, because their IPs are shared by divisions. And because after EA is onboard, everyone else will be.
Getting EA or Microsoft to sign to GOG would be absolutely freaking amazing. :)

I'd love to see both join, actually!

And since EA has been pushing the PC a lot lately - especially w/ their EA Store and much-improved EADM program - and since Microsoft even has Fable 3 PC sold now on Steam, getting both to join GOG would be something to behold.

I'd be great to see System Shock 2, Bullfrog's games, Ultima games, and other great stuff from EA be on board.

I'd sure many would love to see Microsoft classic games on here - how about some MechWarrior games?

Really, though - why let OLD game rot and be hard and almost impossible to find and make NO money off them? Publishers need to get them, re-work them up to get them working on modern OS's, get people interested, get them on digital distribution so they all can make some money!

If there's enough of an interest w/ this old stuff - maybe they can then make modern-day sequel to push these IP's further and make more money!

Actually, I think Doom belongs to Zenimax now, after they purchased Id last year. I don't think the next publisher will be Zenimax though, I can't see them have that many games. Still, I would welcome The Elder Scrolls. And Commander Keen! :D

But again, doubt it.

They are still working on Windows 7 compatibility, and are far from end (see my GogMix for a list of Windows 7 not compatible games),

And, in other thread someone posted an email for a press, and it confirms it's a new publisher.

Sure, but there's still plenty of games using DOSBox or scummvm (many more scummvm games if LucasArts come on board), and other than needing to use wine to extract the game files from the setup exe they could be marketed as being Mac and Linux compatible with very little additional work.
