Schnuff: Its sad that a company like them couldn't do the math before.
They ask for 400K $. Ask yourself if the backers only donated that sum how much game could they program? The title
screen? I would love to know if the money is still there or already spent.
When you get a much larger sum of money, all your previous planifications go to waste, and you start experimenting on innovations rather then going traditional. They clearly fell in the trap of wanting to create a revolutionary (or at least distinct) game and expenses got out of control.
"Hey guys we messed up! So we are going to only be able to complete half the game and hope enough people will buy into that just because it shows up on steam to keep us going!"

I get the desire of wanting to stay an independent studio, but if stuff like this is happening, why not seek out work from publishers? They made The Cave for Sega and it was a fine game I thought. Did it just totally bomb or something?

Releasing this right after another kickstarter ended is frightening if you donated to either or both of them.

Well, that's actually what initially caused the budget issues. They were originally planning on making a teensy little game with a tiny budget, then they got way more money they expected and scaled up too much.

Novotnus: The best (IMO) adventure game of 2012 was made with $0 budget, at home, at nights, by one guy.
Yes, you all know what game I'm talking about :)
I think it has nothing to do with cats.

thelovebat: Gamers have a right to know the truth. Otherwise they should have handled their budget better to begin with and they wouldn't be in this predicament. People placed a lot of trust in them and spoke with their wallets.

xy2345: That's true. That piece of information should be public just in case Double Fine comes up with another kickstarter.
Odd you should mention that, because they did do another Kickstarter that just ended recently.

Funny how they didn't mention this update until after funding finished for their other Kickstarter.

Tranquil.Suit: Trying to think of a pun with "budgetting failure" and "Double Fine".
I love the fact that some didn't get your joke... lol...

Nope... my fellow paranormal cat :)

Nope, it does? Or nope, it doesn't? :P

Nope, it doesn't - apart from a segment where you play as a cat. And a certain group of cats that like piano music. And 'cat' in the title :)

Crosmando: Did I do something to offend you? It's just information.
avatar
TheJoe: No you just did a horrible thing by posting a statement which, at the top of the original statement, says "for backers-only". The reason those updates are private is because they contain information only for backers. Otherwise they wouldn't be backers-only.

You might as well just give us all the documentary.
Is that you, Tim?

avatar
MoP: Gamers that placed the trust and spoke with their wallets would know the truth. Because they're backers. You know, the dudettes&dudes that get to read these backer-only's.
Is free speech no longer a thing? Are people who backed this and feel that there money was not well spent not allowed to tell anyone because they guy that fucked them over said they can't? A backer was the one who originally leaked it after all.

I know. Strange how that works, is it not?

I always wonder: Why would they do that? If I wanted 1 million USD and would have gotten 3 why would I change important parts of my game? Of course I could hire better voice actors, maybe even a famous actor or two, but if I have this vision of my game why would I change it and risk the whole game just because I got more money?

And what about the giant zombie cat? Seriously, how are you neglecting the giant zombie cat in the room? I expected this kind of thing from a casual observer but from the main fan of the game? Man, am I on the wrong site?

There was no vision. The vision was "let's make an adventure game", that's it. They were literally starting from scratch.

There seems to be too much cat to call it "nope, it doesn't", but oh well, it's past midnight.
