Tranquil.Suit: Not be too much of a DF apologist. But their budget fell in that zone. You know what I mean, not enough for AAA production value, but too much for indie. Especially to the average reader, they see 3.2mil and think that's an insane amount of money. Given how successful the kickstarter was, everyone (including themselves) expected high production value from them.

That said, Tim has had enough experience in this biz not to make such errors.
I think the issue might be about "proper" studios with salaried employees VS indie developers living at home and making the game on their computer, communicating with team-members via the net, and only taking enough money from Kickstarter funds to pay rent and survive. Pay-roll is the biggest expense in game development obviously, especially when you take into account the taxes and benefits legal businesses have to provide to employees.

Don't quote me, but I think the current Rise of the Triad remake up to preorder on GOG was made by devs working from home, not in an office studio.

Even the Wasteland 2 team (I've heard) have certain developers (artists mostly) working from home on occasion to keep costs down, while the core programming team is in office.

xy2345: No, he'd probably still need twice as much money to actually finish it. ;)

Tranquil.Suit: You mean DOUBLE infinite money!!
Exactly. It doesn't matter how large the amount of money is, they'll always need more.
Massive fuck up. Tim Schafer fails at studio management. I wonder what the guy behind Gemini Rue would say to 3 million dollars not being enough for half an adventure game.

Gamers have a right to know the truth. Otherwise they should have handled their budget better to begin with and they wouldn't be in this predicament. People placed a lot of trust in them and spoke with their wallets.

He'd probably give Logan Cunningham a big raise.
Its sad that a company like them couldn't do the math before.
They ask for 400K $. Ask yourself if the backers only donated that sum how much game could they program? The title
screen? I would love to know if the money is still there or already spent.

Gamers that placed the trust and spoke with their wallets would know the truth. Because they're backers. You know, the dudettes&dudes that get to read these backer-only's.

There's ALWAYS a risk involved in kickstarter projects, and provided the funds have mostly been used to developing the game, it's as much the fault of the gullable backers as it is of the financial manager/responsable.

Stop complaining people, you'll eventually get a game or something that is playable to a certain degree... just don't expect a second grim fandango.
The best (IMO) adventure game of 2012 was made with $0 budget, at home, at nights, by one guy.
Yes, you all know what game I'm talking about :)

That's true. That piece of information should be public just in case Double Fine comes up with another kickstarter.
My wife backed this project. She finds the videos describing the process really interesting and would like to see the game finished. She did mention a while back that the project was well behind schedule. Still, she's not really bothered about the $15 she has spent.

Were I in her situation*, though, I'd probably be irked.
