Speaking more directly: the fact that "The game isn't even out yet" is... kinda the problem. It's not a saving grace, it's an embarrassment.

I don't believe people are complaining about the delay, just that DF have proven to be utterly incompetent with handling money. I mean we're talking about a point-and-click adventure game here, not exactly complex to make. Meanwhile an actual competent team of developers who got about the same amount as DF on Kickstarter are making great progress making an open-world full-scale RPG:

Hey, but at least Double Fine have good marketing and a million-dollar propaganda documentary about nothing but telling everyone how cool they are, they sure have a shitload of their fanboys drinking the cool-aid and giving them money by the bucketload to waste.

Well, You did in the post before mine ;) And the end result is just that, a delay, I'm getting the game a year later. But all the drama You people are creating is certainly great fodder tor the documentary, which I hope will not go to waste, so I'm all for it. Got a year supply of popcorn.

(I'm not saying they didn't mismanage it, they clearly went over their heads, it's embarrassing, and they deserve the ribbing - but besides that, this is blown way... I mean MASSIVELY :trollface: out of proportion, from proclaiming that nothing is done or the game is dead in the water, to getting money back and suing - most likely because outside people get this with zero context, I guess their info stream went something like "game got funded" -> "radio silence" -> "OMG THEY BLEW THE MONEY AND DID NOTHING").

it is not delay tough. it is lack of money. blizzard, valve, activision delaying games is no issue. they have hundreds of different sources of income, hundred of millions of dollars in savings.
DF has neither.
they had 2.5-3M dollars to spend on this game. they cannot afford delays that's why they are hoping for that steam deal to be successful.

now... if everything works out beautifully game will be made. but clearly they are not up to it now so why should anyone believe they'll provide us with game?

That's the problem, the buyer's remorse and denial seems to be so strong in DF fanboys that they're cognitively dissonant of how serious the precedent of this is, your post is a pretty good example of this. Seems like backers feel compelled to fanatically defend DF on this because they're too proud to accept that they got played the fool in this, and speak out against it.

So yeah, I'm not sure how it's funny at all, the backers are the ones who are getting taken for a ride in this, you and others are just too blinded by denial to accept it.

The current budget is looking to be around 6M, yes, but they have not spent 6M. That was the misconception I was addressing.

How is the money they get from selling their game not theirs? Also, why do you think this is the only revenue option available to them?

There have been no release dates, actually. Even the January 2014 for half the game is just an estimate that is subject to change.

Let me put this in another way: according to current plans you are getting ~3M worth of game early next year and an additional ~3M worth of game half a year later. Or, if you prefer, ~6M worth of game all at once. How is that not twice as good as getting a ~3M game?

It's not in beta, it's not even in alpha. They indicated that "the spaceship" is in alpha, so one area of the game is in alpha. What's that going to be? 4 rooms? 5? Alpha probably means puzzles haven't been implemented either.

I don't see how anyone would have any trust in a company that burned through over 3 million dollars in 16 months and only managed to produce AN ALPHA of one area, using (relatively) simplistic graphics.

You people will be waiting till the sun burns out to see this game completed. More likely Double Fine will go bankrupt long before that. It's obvious no publisher would want to deal with such idiots, and they have already had both barrels on Kickstarter.

So what you're saying is the people who actually bought the game are the ones defending it, and that's because of denial and ... buyers remorse? Perhaps they simply don't see it the same way.

To me it just seems like you projecting drama and doom on a situation and apparently being unable to fathom that not everyone seems to be falling in line after you.

One of the early kickstarters overestimated their reach. They're being honest about it, and are still doing their best to find ways to amend the situation, like putting it on Steam Early Access, which is quite likely to indeed help them a lot.

Or maybe you just don't get to hear about the problems on the other projects, ever thought about that?
