Gersen: ...Also IMO if most peoples backed it it's not because they were expecting a 2-3 hours long tiny flash adventure game, if most backed it's because they expected the next Monkey Island (Replace MI with your favorite Lucasarts adventure game), if they had took the 3 millions and released a low budget game I am sure most peoples would have been a lot more pissed than they are today. ...
Me not, because I don't trust them to get a much better game done in much greater time without more budget. As far as I can see it they hope for a Steam-Early-Access miracle which might or might not happen. I would rather have a nice small game finished by now and them working on a sequel.

chezybezy: It may not be professional however they get double points from me for actually admitting they messed up. ... Double Fine at least admitted they messed up - and in this day and age that seems to be rare.
The timing however is really bad. They admitted it only when it was really late. In principle they should have seen in coming all over the last 12 months. Everytime they compare the plan with their real progress they should have seen that with the money they cannot make the game they would like to make, so something has to be changed. I have the feeling they knew about the situation since a long time.

nijuu: Yeah.Mega disappointed to be honest :P..expected a lot more bitching to be honest.. but ill check tomorrow and see how it develops ;)
I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya! ;)
I guess the problem is with most backers having had a 'bit' more background and context from the updates and forums to go on than the internet lunging at drama-leaks from the codex (or have better things to do than whine over a delayed schedule), but this thread should be a good fall-back.

All of this could make that documentary more interesting actually. More pitchforks!

Gersen: ...Not to defend them or anything but you cannot really compare an Indy dev working with a very small team to a professional development studio with developers/artist/etc.. you actually have to pay every month. (And if they use well known actors as voice actor they can easily destroy most of their budget before actually typing a single line of code)

3 millions looks like a huge sum but it's actually a small budget, a better comparison would be with Deadelic but as far as I know we don't know the budget of their games.
Maybe they just have too many employees for the number of projects going or they are underfinanced and should have asked for larger sums. Just a thought.

Would have been pretty stupid to admit this during their other kickstarter, which ran till June 27th.

I mean more than some weeks. I guess they might have known about their bad financial situation for months.

They could have canned the Massive Chalice campaign then. I am guessing the people who just funded that are more upset than the actual funders of this game.
I'll be upset if Massive Chalice doesn't turn out to get made/finished. There's no reason to believe that yet.
Double Screwed Productions!!!!

Wonder what the chances are they will be tempted to funnel funds from this to Broken Age :P

KOCollins: Odd, when I saw their newest kickstarter a few weeks ago, I thought to myself: Are they just running out of money for the other one, and plan to use the money from this kickstarter to help them finish it? All the while rationalizing to themselves that when they start selling the first game, all that money they make will go to the next one?
Serious, that was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the "Massive Chalice" kickstarter. I thought I was just being overly suspicious, but now, I wonder IF some of that money might just go to the first game after all. I truly hope not.
Sorry to the backers, at least though it seems like there WILL be a game, and hopefully it will still be a good one, if not super huge. A word of advice to Double Fine would be to let a pessimist plan their budgeting and project scope/size, it may save them some sleepless nights. Well, I wish them luck.
Don't forget humble double fine bundle at HumbleBundle (didn't they make couple prototype bundles there earlier too) ;-p Didn't they make more than million with that as well. So they've acumulated 6+mil $ in funding with nothing to so for it and still they ask more moneyz :-p This will most definately become the worst disaster in crowd funding history.

Needs more Sega.
Spent it all on hookers and blow?
high rated
So if Tim cocks up in a similar fashion with Massive Chalice and neither of the games see the light of day, and if backers end up taking the company to court, does that mean they'll be Double Fined?

Sorry, I'll get my coat...
