Arghmage: As a Baker, I'm not seeing any problem here.

The game will get bigger without additional costs for me, but I have to wait longer, but I'll get a part of the game earlier.

As long as I'm getting the game and it may be ever better than I expect it, than there is really nothing to complain about.
But, but, but, the drama must not go to waste!

Aww, poor kitty, didn't find the drama you were looking for? There, there.

I could say that it might not have the same effect whether a baker makes one bread today or two breads tomorrow because one might be hungry today, but I think the main question will be if indeed it gets better. Even with the longer time it could still be insufficient, still be in an unfinished (not so much fun) state at the end. Do you trust the new dates that they have given out?

I wish I could be a Baker as well, my current job is too boring sometimes
So lets look at an even bigger risk...so now that people have seen this "small" project go to shit...Sure it will be finished eventually, but they could not do a small point and click game at 3.2 million.

Now...how the hell is Star Citizen which supposedly will be a huge game will get finished...sure they have 6x the budget of Broken Age...but...the scope is probably 1000x larger. Secondly, the ships are expensive as hell. Seems a lot of risk to backing that game. Even more so seeing s smaller game looking like it will take 3-4 years to finish...so by those numbers, Star Citizen should take about 10-20 years to finish...

Kickstarters will probably take a bit of a nosedive for a while...or hopefully they will get smarter...who knows.

This has to be a new GOG meme.

Well, you'll get half a bread earlier than Today (January 2014 instead of July 2014). So there is no need to get hungry.

I see this like every other preoder game that I bought. Sometimes they come later. Till now I did get all my games. The question is if the quality of the game will be as I expected. Till now all the material did gave the the confident to wait a little longer (or shorter - keep in mind some of the game will come earlier.)

StingingVelvet: It was pitched as a $300,000 small little Wadjet Eye style game. If their company bulk prevented them from actually doing that, maybe they shouldn't have said they could?
That's the keyword, it "was", but I suspect it has all changed at the end of the first day then they reach the million.

Also IMO if most peoples backed it it's not because they were expecting a 2-3 hours long tiny flash adventure game, if most backed it's because they expected the next Monkey Island (Replace MI with your favorite Lucasarts adventure game), if they had took the 3 millions and released a low budget game I am sure most peoples would have been a lot more pissed than they are today.

Personally I see what happens here as a side-effect of Kickstarter or crowd funding in general; you give more freedom to the developers, they are no longer bound to a publisher will, that's good, but in the other side you have the risk of them getting "over enthusiast" and trying to bite off more than they can chew. Let's not forget that stuff like DNF or Daikatana exist because certain developers were given too much freedom.

Alfie3000: This has to be a new GOG meme.
I'll try to help, but can't promise anything.

Bloodygoodgames: There are just too many financially inept fools running development companies, and Schafer is just another one.

Personally, I think Kickstarter will eventually collapse under projects like this that, because of the idiots running them who can't deliver on what they promised.

I'm still waiting for the first Kickstarter I helped fund deliver what it promised. It's now almost 10 months behind schedule, has produced a multi-player battle thingy I never wanted and wouldn't have funded, yet the single-player game doesn't seem to be much closer to completion.

Fools. Fools. Fools. And so many indie developers wonder why they get their asses kicked by mega international developers that CAN follow a budget.

Stiler: I can't help but think you're talking about Banner Saga there, they said from the start in Kickstarter what they planned to do with the mp aspect and releasing it as a f2p portion of the game.

It wa sa way for them to both test and flesh out the combat aspect (Which will be int eh single player game) as well as a way to get more people interested in the single player game.

IT's over-schedule because tehy got more money and made a bigger game, as they've explained before.
No, they didn't say they were doing a multi-player game during the kickstarter. That brainwave came months later, when they started to do the combat for the single-player game and decided to branch it off into a game of its own.

Needless to say it's derailed the main game and put them almost a year behind schedule. From reading between the lines, I'd say they are also rapidly running out of money as they bit off more than they can chew, so if the single-player game is ever released, IMO, it will be a miracel.

Mivas: And OP, despite the information being common knowledge now, I don't like backers-only leaks, the full copy-paste update in this case, so here goes your -1.

Enjoy your very own -1.
LOL, that was my response too. It seems Wankers R Us are out in force today :) and all the OP was trying to do was pass on information which IS important to the gaming industry overall, and particularly to anyone who backs Kickstarters

Seems to like DF are just unable or unwilling to make a mid-budget game, they just need everything they make to be AAA, have voice-acting and expensive artsy graphics.

I'm sure at the heart of it, it's motivated by their desire to be "popular" and well-known, they don't want to make something niche with limited appeal.

This news devalues Kickstarter and loses peoples trust in crowdfunding. Well done Tim Schafer.

Agreed, some people in the last FTL thread complained that the games size did not reflect the incredible budget they got from the kickstarter (20 times the planned money). They still made the game they set out to make.

Bloodygoodgames: This stuff is all over the internet. Are you really that naive? Or do you just enjoy being a cantakerous prick?
Hey so are all the GOGs in this store's catalogue. Why are you still buying them?
It may not be professional however they get double points from me for actually admitting they messed up.
Unlike a certain other publisher and game who sank the money into a different game and screwed over fans who had been waiting near 10 years for it. do i sound bitter? well i am, were still waiting for the promised apology!
Double Fine at least admitted they messed up - and in this day and age that seems to be rare.
