SirPrimalform: Now I realised that the fact they got more than they asked for meant they increased the scope of the project, but what kind of fool do you have to be to increase the scope beyond the budget increase? They screwed up way worse instead, they managed to promise something they didn't even have the rights to do.
Don't be an idiot. The Shadowrun guys, even though they've had to cut a fair amount from their original design, are still going to release a complete game (release date is end of this month). The DRM thing was out of their hands.

Precisely. When something is out of your hands, you don't make promises like that. Except they did.
And I don't appreciate you calling me an idiot.
I can understand why people are pissed at this. It doesn't bother me though.

I think the problem is one of relative size.

If a $400,000 game goes 20% over budget, that's $80,000, not a huge amount.

If a $3,000,000 game goes 20% over budget, that's $600,000. It's a bit harder to raise that kind of money.

I had thought the money they raised from the double fine bundle would have covered the extra costs but obviously not. Oh well, looking forward to the release some time in the distant future.
I'm a big fan of Tim and their games and I backed good money for the boxed set. But this is disappointing. I don't know what to think.

I think that is the whole point. That is almost a requirement of promising something you don't have the right to do. If it's out of your hands, don't promise it.

I didn't think it was a big deal though, they gave me my money back.

And how is that worse than what DF has done?

Well I'm not gonna argue about that. My point was that at least the SRR guys are going to put a game out. We don't even know if Broken Age will ever see the light of day, and if it does it'll be broken up into episodic format and could take years.

A game got MASSIVELY delayed. The end is neigh.
So considering the last Steam Early Access Kickstarter story we had here, I wonder how much this is going to cost so as to be fair to their backers.

They'll have to do it, too. Consider just how pissy some of the backers got on this very thread just for releasing a freakin' statement that was meant for their paying eyes only.

Will we be seeing another $90 Early Access?

No. Since beta access was $15 on Kickstarter, they will most likely charge $15 to $20 for Steam early access.
Good to be reminded why I haven't backed a Kickstarter project yet. Sure, some games were already successfully released, but those were all smaller projects. I'm still very suspicious about those big-name, large budget games. This thing with DF sucks, but I feel that it's only a minor catastrophe, and there will be some big, massive fuckup in the future.

So far, I've fared pretty well with just buying the excellent Kickstarter projects when they were released, but even if I would start backing, I'd make it a rule to only back projects that have something substantially to show. No matter how much you love a creator, you should never give money to empty promises.

Crassmaster: Not a surprise really. Being a good game designer doesn't automatically mean someone has a clue of how to run a business or budget properly. This will be far from the last instance of something like this happening.
Paging Romero, paging Romero.

C´mon you cheeky bastard, i know you have an account here, don´t be shy.

try 25 bucks.I can imagine if price is same or discounted down to backer price on early access backers will be up in arms.what would be the point backing it on ks in first place?. as a regular ks backer (not this one) pisses me off when a backed game basically becomes available for same price on steam.. discount or no discount.
Act 1, huh?

What a clever way to make more money and still make good on their Kickstarter.

For the record, I love Doublefine, I love Tim Schaefer's work. I just don't love the greed. :p

If they round up Patrick Stewart, Jeff Goldblum, and an entire cast of amazing high quality voice actors to perform in this game, I might see it being worth more than $400,000+. Haha

They did that with Brutal Legend, and the budget for it was like 24 million, more than 6 times what they have with this KS now.
