F4LL0UT: I'd pick "openglnb" for output. OpenGL seems to be less glitchy in case of many games and the "nb" eliminates the horrible filtering which normally causes a blurry mess in opengl mode.
Opengl and openglnb are very slow on ATI's, especially with games that have a lot of screenscrolling going on, overlay or ddraw are much better for those cards.
fullresolution=0x0

output=opengl

aspect=true

scaler=normal2x

Enjoying my full screen, ratio-correct gaming sessions in DOSBox since 2007 or whatever :-P

My last graphics card was an ATI and even if OpenGL is slower, I didn't experience any noteworthy slowdowns compared to other modes - so I guess with a fairly modern graphics card the fact that it's slower isn't notable (maybe I just didn't play the corresponding games, though - I'm wondering if you have a few particular ones in mind). What's worse, however, is that some games like Populous 2 and Magic Carpet tend to run into glitches in other modes than OpenGL, that's why it's my default mode unless I run into certain issues.

Star Control 2 and Alien Breed are unplayeble for me with opengl or openglnb.
I've got the same problem with the ratio

and i've tried that 1024x600 which has been mentioned and also my native res, When i start the game with these the window is very small.

Have you tried KingofGnG's solution above?

You could also try setting your video card's GPU scaling setting to maintain aspect ratio which will help ensure non-native aspect ratios are displayed correctly.

Just tried out KingofGnG's solution there's still somewhat of a window only bigger

eh i'll just stick with WinRott.

phatman: Excellent - thanks, Tor.

That's sorted out Fallout as well, and I've reverted the DOSbox config for HOMM, and that's working properly now as well. Looks like a winner!
Glad you got it sorted.
