Terrible? Yeah, it was not such a good horror game, but so what? It was a very good shooter, that could have been fantastic with just a few minor tweaks. Shooting was satisfying and fun, as far as weapon and monster balance goes most other games should learn a thing or two from Doom 3, and pacing was kind of slower, and since I'm a slower person, it's doom 3 I keep replaying every now and again, not Painkiller nor Serious Sam.

The main issue I had with Doom 3 was that it wasn't what it could have been. I didn't find the level design to be particularly compelling. Since the BFG edition is out, I may just play the copy I have again and see if I change my mind about it. But I doubt I will, the game had a lot of potential that IMHO was ultimately wasted.

Well I did approach Doom 3 with general mindset of 'It'll be shit.' I do that a lot. I end up being pleasantly surprised a lot :-P

That probably helped, I kind of feel the same way about Doom 3 that a lot of folks feel about FO3 in that it's probably a good game, but it's not the same as the previous games and it's not entirely still in the same genre.

I liked FO3, but mainly because I could accept that they took it into effectively a new genre.

Oh well if you want a slow pace FPS I'd suggest Crysis, I didn't find the shooting in Doom 3 particularly good. The guns lacked punch and the monsters just sort of fell over and disappeared... lame.

I've played Crysis and Far Cry and while good games, both are not exactly my cup of tea, and are quite a bit different so ... Yeah, that was not such a good suggestion. I genuinely do enjoy Doom 3 more than both of those. And if you think that guns in Doom 3 lacked puch, you were doing something wrong. When used correctly in correct situation, every weapon in Doom 3 is very capable of dealing with what's it been designed for within a few seconds.

Steam's selling the old X-COM games. I believe you'll find digital distribution works slightly differently than selling physical goods.

Basically here we just have a bunch of people here raging about a game that has simply been repackaged.

And stripped of mod support.

What I'm angry about is that by this nice step they've pretty much cut everyone from Doom 3 modding scene which was and still is quite active and has produced a few nice pieces that I can heartily recommend.

You may not care about mods, that is fine, but I have bought original Half-Life in ... 2007 or so just so I can get to playing mods. I bought it off Steam, by the way. If Valve released Half-Life Source and pulled the original with it, I would have never played those fantastic modifications.

So yeah, it's very nice of them to cut future buyers from that just so they get more profit. The fact that BFG edition doesn't actually enhance anything doesn't help either.

$30 for the BFG Edition?! That's insane, I bought the id Super Pack (which included all of the Doom games and most of id's Steam catalog) for $35 during a recent holiday sale. This should (at most) be a $10 upgrade. I also don't like what I'm hearing about the removed content in Doom 2. Count me out Bethesda.

Comparing sale prices to list price. That is not really making a compelling argument.

They should just add the original D3 version to the package and everybody will be happy.

This. Steam servers are still hosting the game anyway, so what would be the harm.
