So with Doom 3 BFG Editions recent launch, the guys at Bethesda decided to pull the original Doom3 from steam.

“DOOM 3 and Resurrection of Evil are now only available through the BFG Edition, which also includes the Lost Mission,” a rep told RPS. “If you already own the original versions of DOOM 3 and Resurrection of Evil, you will still be able to access them from within your Steam library.”

Thank God I already owned all the Doom games on Steam. Bethesda can go fuck itself.

Doom 3, ROE, Master Levels, Final DOOM, the DOOM pack and the Super id pack are all gone. They'll look into "options" most likely when sales are satisfying for their shiny new super awesome edition.
But looking from the other side it was kind of obvious that they will replace DOOM 3 + RoE with BFG Edition.

Doom 3, ROE, Master Levels, Final DOOM, the DOOM pack and the Super id pack are all gone.
O_O

Old DOOM's and the id Super Pack are gone too? Now this is a bit too much I think.

I think it sucks because Doom 3 BFG Edition has higher system requirements so people with not so good machines don't have a Doom 3 option anymore.

If BFG edition could do exactly what the old Doom 3 + RoE did, it would be obvious. However, there are some rather fantastic mods for Doom 3, including those that make Doom 3 + RoE actually look great (link .)
It also not only 'enhances' the game (there are some genuine enhancements that Doom 3 just couldn't do like support for some particular hardware etc.,) but also changes the gameplay to even slower pace and removes weapon vs flashlight mechanic that someone hated and someone loved. So... Yeah, by pulling actual Doom 3, they've IMO screwed up big time and showed how little the enhanced edition actually does add.

Yeah, it sucks completely. But it's good that they left the standard DOOM 3 + RoE and old DOOM's for people that already had them.
Proper thing to do would have been to announce id Tech 5 mod support coming, keep vanilla up until then, and not fuck with the games not even associated with the BFG edition.

But that makes too much sense! :P

Yes of course, I'm just saying that it was obvious that they would do that.
I had sort of mixed feelings about the BFG edition. I already own all of the DOOM games on Steam so it is hard to justify 20 bucks for some new levels and slightly shinier graphics. I'm not sure how I feel about the flashlight thing either. I recall not minding the darkness like some did. It added to the tension at times.

So far, I've resisted buying it. It just seems rather expensive for what it offers. Maybe if it was a $10. upgrade for existing owners I'd have grabbed it.

Exactly. They must be out of their minds. Normal price for BFG is 29.99$ in US and 29.99€ (!!) in EU and if you already own D3 it's 19.99$ in US and 19.99€ (!!) in EU.

The discount that they are offering for DOOM 3 owners is just laughable.
Their intentions may be good (having both the old versions, and the new HD remake with extra levels, being sold side by side can cause grief to unwashed masses if they pick the "wrong" version), but most likely they are just being greedy, trying to sell basically the same game several times.

I recall being a bit miffed back when I bought Simcity 3000 retail, and then quite fast after that they released Simcity 3000 World Edition (aka Simcity 3000 Unlimited). But luckily I was able to sell the basic edition second hand, and then I bought World Edition.

Come to think of it, same with Thief: The Dark Project => Thief Gold. Luckily I waited for the Gold version.

But I prefer how the Witcher games were handled, ie. you'll get the updated/expanded versions free of charge. If CDPR treats their _customers_ that well, I don't care even if they club 15-year old pirates (ie. non-customers) like baby seals.
