What a bunch of cunts.
So glad i bought the Doom complete pack in the steam summer sale.
The only possible defense they might have is saying they didn't want people to be confused and buy the old version when wanting the new.

If that is true watch D3 return as "D3 classic" or something,
I'm just glad that the other classic id Soft franchises seem to be unaffected since I only owned the Doom and Quake games - have yet to grab Hexen, Heretic and Wolfenstein. I'm wondering though what happened the new Wolfenstein. I can't see it in the store, when did that one disappear??? O_O

I'm putting my money on this. Considering the attention span of the average gamer....

They should add the old D3 as bonus, imo.

Yeah, I've long had the games on disc as well (I have the since extremely rare 2003 UK rerelease of Doom 1+2+Final Doom), and personally, I'm glad that I hang on to my games when you have to deal with general cuntishness like this in the industry.

In fact, I feel like shit for having paid for Dishonored. I'm certainly not too happy about those cunts at Zenimax getting any of many money.

I think they snagged the rights from Activision and have yet to put it back up for sale. Same with Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

langurmonkey: I think it sucks because Doom 3 BFG Edition has higher system requirements so people with not so good machines don't have a Doom 3 option anymore.
The BFG edition's requirements are ridiculous. GeForce 9800 GT / Radeon HD 5500 for a game that was perfectly playable at high settings on a Radeon 9800 Pro.

Ya that one has been gone for a while. Don't know why. I don't think Id made the new one though did they? Didn't Ravensoft make it?

Doom 3 regular with some of the best mods installed absolutely CRUSHED my computer, i can say without a doubt that the modders did a MUCH better job then id have done in Doom 3 BFG.

It was a cooperation just like several earlier games including Quake 4. As Fuzzyfireball pointed out the big difference is apparently that Activision was the publisher for this one.

Edit: Oh, I just see that Activision also published Quake 4 originally, which IS available on Steam (with id Soft listed as the publisher). Well, guess they just haven't settled the IP transfer to id Soft / Bethesda / Zenimax whatever in case of Wolfenstein yet.

Exactly. What they did is almost like updating the graphics for Doom 2, releasing a Doom 2 BFG edition and removing Doom 2 for sale, screwing everyone interested in Doom 2 who games with a netbook or most laptops or an old desktop. Then making you pay extra for the better graphics.

I think they just want everyone who is interested in Doom 3 to be forced to pay more for the BFG edition to make more money.

Nope, they've just upped the requirements. I'm yet to see any actual graphical updates, from videos and screenshots BFG edition looks exactly like the original Doom 3, with some improved (and actually some worse) textures.

Apart from that fact that the BFG edition is cheaper than Doom 3 +exp + Doom 1 + Doom 2 was before it ...

Prices were pretty close, if anything they want sale numbers for BFG to be higher so overlord Zenimax doesn't send them to the torture chamber.
