So, based on what I've seen so far, It's DOOM 3 with a couple (awful) graphical tweaks and duct tape mod. DOOM 2's secret and super secret levels were ripped out. This was very much for the console crowd who missed DOOM 3. As a matter a fact, why they even bothered with a PC release has left me scratching my head. If you enjoyed DOOM 3, forget this shit and check this out instead. http://deadendthrills.com/?cat=88 Sikkmod 1.2, Wulfen textures 2.0, Monoxead's textures, you should be able to find all of that around with a search.

xxxIndyxxx: You didn't get the memo when Rage was released?
avatar
jamyskis: Huh? Rage wasn't censored, and while it wasn't exactly id's best moment, it wasn't an overly bad game either. Still, it did mark the start of id's steady decline.
I was referring to the lieing part, not the censoring.

Yeah, modding community pretty much did all BFG edition does already, and better for the most part. And I'm not talking about the rest of the modding scene, some really great things came out for Doom 3.

This is also why I'm not buying it (yet). I would love to have a copy of the Doom games legit on Steam, but not without modding support.
So, if they censored DOOM 2 here, does that mean GOG's chances of getting any of the Wolfenstein games or DOOM 2 are slim to none? It seems GOG sells some games worldwide that you'd think they wouldn't be able to.

Well I have Doom 3 on Steam and mods work just fine.

SimonG: From what I heard, the BFG edition will be censored worldwide to accommodate the German market. http://www.schnittberichte.com/news.php?ID=4069 The news are a bit older, though.

NightK: What's being censored? O.o That sucks really, and no I didn't pre-order because of steamworks, even though I enjoyed Doom 3.
Sheesh! First WWII, and now this?

I think I'll just play through my existing Resurrection of Evil (which I've yet to play, completed the base game a long time ago) and forget about the extra levels in the BFG edition.

They work fine with regular Doom 3, but according to RPS id hasn't decided whether to support mods yet with the BFG edition. And since it's on Tech 5 instead of Tech 4, it's highly unlikely that any existing mods would be compatible.

Is there any noticable improvement to the visuals?

Huh. Basically just looks like they made it lighter.
Eurogamer gave this a 5/10 rating.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-10-19-doom-3-bfg-edition-review
"This review is intended purely as an assessment of how Doom 3's content and gameplay stand up today. If you're interested in the features and technical aspects of this new version, Digital Foundry will have extensive coverage for you over the next two days."

So they didn't even review Doom 3 BFG then. What was the point?

Yeah, with r_lightscale 2.
