Id-soft have now open sourced their engine for Doom3 BFG edition.

Looks like they haven't stopped providing geekservice even after being merged with Zenimax.

The source is located on Github.

Happy tinkering ;)
Sweet. After all the problems with id over recent months (actually, I'm pretty sure that the aggro was more attributable to Zenimax, but anyway...), this is a very nice conciliatory gesture. Good to see that something of the old id remains yet.

The interesting thing about this is that it gives rise to the ability to create a legitimate Steam-free version of BFG. In fact, a few early Humble Bundle titles notwithstanding, I think this is the first time a Steamworks-exclusive title has had its source code published.
Wow, that came out of nowhere. I didn't think Zenimaxx would allow ID Software to continue their tradition of providing their source codes. Especially not so shortly after the game's release. o_O
