40 is considered "over the hill", and in the United States, it's the age where, if they haven't already, serious health problems begin to occur.

My tone was meant to convey derision towards those who were surprised that the guy died after being tasered twice in a row.

What are you talking about? It's always been 40. Since the 1980's, at least. "The Big Four-Oh" people called it.

I got it easily.....also I loved the whole skit in Family Guy with Brian as Logan running from the authorities while Snoopy is nearby and Brian says "Why don't you take him, he's gotta be pushing 50 or something.".

The article doesn't mention it, but I wonder if the man was not alone in the cell? That could really change how the officers respond to this type of situation.

lukipela: Depends on the size of the guy and other factors.
This is part of my argument. Tasers work on muscles. If a big, burly guy has little body fat between the dermis and muscle tissue, then it doesn't matter how big his muscles are, since the weapon is meant to directly disrupt the signals that allow for conscious control of them, without need for circulation through the bloodstream as with a tranquilizer. However, if the big guy has a lot of "adipose" or "fatty" tissue in between the dermis and muscle tissue, then it might act as a sort of "insulating layer". And if the guy has that much fat to begin with, he's probably got other health problems as well.
