I'm in for sure.
*checks on youtube*. Im curious about both 3 and 4 but i might leave it til buying another time. Hows the AI in 3? (or does it exist)?..im going to assume these games mainly aim at multiplayer right?
It's ok I guess. It's pretty straightforward in all aspects, and on higher difficulties it gets bonuses to gold and resources.

I haven't played a lot of multiplayer, but I can tell you it feels very different from single-player, if only for the fact that you're encouraged to be as Machiavellian as possible, whereas in single-player it's a linear game of conquest. In MP, non-aggression pacts are meant to be broken, and alliances are a race to see who can overrun the common enemy first >:)

Hmm I thought I was the fastest since I kept churning out researchers for Blood Magic. Ah well, I should have waited a few more turns D:

I recommend Tokshen for Dominion 4 videos. He's done five series/LP's on the game. A tutorial series, an EA Atlantis, a modded game, a MP game, and a MA Agartha series.

I learned a lot from observing how he plays, and his mistakes, and he sold me on purchasing the game myself.

thanks. The recommendation is awesome. His Lets Plays are pretty detailed and clear. Heck he messaged me to say thanks for subscribing as well. I may end up at least buying 3 next time its on sale :)
This does sound pretty wonderful. Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner or know anything about this game before this morning. I do need to branch out from Steam and GOG and see what other services offer too.
I'll try to pay more attention for this being on sale next time but a little publicity in this thread or the Deals thread would be nice too :).
So, do we have any more interest in a multiplayer game?

So far it looks like just us three.
So what's keeping this series from coming out on GOG?

Also, how long is an average map? I just finally finished Dungeon Keeper and that was clocking me at almost 3 hours per dungeon.

games being a bit pricey (20 and 40 bucks for 3 and 4 if i remember on gg) and devs unwilling to go DRM free?. anyone asked them?

It hasn't been too long since anyone started asking them, ifyouknowwhatimean. Both Dom 3 and 4 are DRM-free enough for GOG (offline key activation and a multiplayer uniqueness requirement). Yes, singleplayer also requires the key, but you probably aren't buying it to play against the AI.

Exactly this. The DRM is no worse than ArmA2's and NWN2's. As for price, Dom3's regular price is now $20. I'm really not quite sure why it isn't on GOG yet.

Depends a lot on the map size. But the Dominions series is closer to something like Civilization or Total War than Dungeon keeper. I guess that someone knowing what (s)he is doing could easily beat a small map in less than 1½h though.

From what i remember cd key for multiplayer is ok but GOG doesn't allow key activation requirement for singleplayer which is probably why it isnt on GOG....
I think unique multiplayer profile would be much better. But not with cd-key, account connected to email, perhaps.
