I'm just wondering. GOG has the Unreal Tournament games for $8.49 each, which isn't a bad price. You can get the Unreal Anthology collection (all four) from Amazon for .99, which is better. GameStop then has it for .99 for the Anthology. It's a better price, but I'd prefer to get it through GOG.

Yeah, GameStop's price is pretty weird. Usually they're one of the worse ones, I wonder if somethings up. :P

You'll always be able to find titles at big discounts with the current competition amongst video game outlets, both physical and digital.
You have to go that extra mile to attract customers these days. Which is great news for all us gamers. GameStop is selling that package at a loss, though. So it's probably there just to lure customers into their stores and hope they add something else of which they can make some positive cash.
That being said, GoG has two fixed price points at $5.99 and $9.99 only, and is entirely at the whim of the publisher which point to set for a particular game. There have also been a general increase in promos and discounts here the past few months, with more than a few very good deals.

At that price for gamestop I wouldn't be suprised if all it is, is them trying to clear some leftover stock of that game they no longer want taking up space.

Exactly... this is basically the source of all heavy retail discounts. It doesn't exist as a concern on digital stores, as there is no such think as overstock.
Digital stores compensate for this with special sales, like GOG and Steam's weekend deals and such. It will never be as good as retail bargains, but it is nice.

The Anthology version doesn't have any DRM either. Unless you count the serial key. Even the GOG staff admit they had to do practically nothing to get those games on here. The Unreal games are something of an exception to the rule really. But they're still good additions for GOG to have, even if they're not the best deals.

No version of any of the Unreal games (including UT3) requires the disc once you've applied the latest patch.

Personally I've always thought the $9.99 pricepoint for most of those Unreal games was excessive. I can maybe understand it for a few of the newer games (though in light of the prices in other places, only a little), but for Unreal, UT and Unreal2 it's rather excessive.
Either $5.99 each, or a bundle for $9.99 would be more realistic and competitive.

Indeed, GOG staff sets prices based on the expectations/requirements of the publisher. In some cases, it's clear they themselves would like it to give the game in question for a lower price; probably, the most famous such case was that of the original Heroes of Might and Magic, where they conducted long talks with Ubisoft to give it for $5.99 and managed to be allowed to sell it for that price for a week.

It's weird that they should even have the games as 1. they don't like pc gamers and 2. it's the equivalent of having max payne on the shelves.. game is so old, especially for them, the only way they could make a sale is if they said "look, it's only $2! think of the savings!"

I could never find a Crysis box in any Gamestop I had ever been to when I was in LA a few months ago. It broke my heart. I did see a lot of Halo 3 and Resistance, and that was really depressing.

I see them all the time and think "boy that's much cheaper on steam." nevermind it's still a fucking rip off.
